For more information, please visit About the role: Luminar Technologies is looking for an Senior Engineer - Electronic Materials & Mfg to be a part of a talented team of Hardware team working on exciting new opportunities in the autonomous mobility and ADAS markets. The individual will be responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of high-quality automotive hardware products. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams including system architects, PCB engineers, Contract Manufacturers, suppliers and product owners to execute day to day activities. Responsibilities: Support Design Engineers in identification and qualification of the materials and processes involved in electronics for automotive applications, including:Electrical component packages and PCB footprintsPCB construction including plating and finishesSolder paste and fluxBoard cleaningEpoxies, adhesives, and coatingsPick and Place, Reflow and Inspection Understand roadmaps and trends of the material suppliers and present them to Design Engineering.Lead Design of Experiments with Contract Manufacturers in development and qualification of material sets and processes that meet our stringent cost and reliability expectations.Support procurement and supplier quality teams with regular audits of key suppliers.Ensure materials sets are compliant with necessary environmental and safety standards, e.g. RoHS, REACH, UL, CE, CSA, Conflict Minerals, etc.Lead internal and external Failure Analysis of electronic assemblies including destructive physical analysis.Focal point for Contract Manufacturing for all material and process related items.Role Requirements BS in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field.Minimum 7 years of experience.Experience with Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) processes and materials.Experience working with contract manufacturers to complete builds of Printed Circuit Assemblies.Experience with inspection methods and destructive physical analysis techniques for electronic assemblies.Familiar with automotive component suppliers, AEC qualifications and automotive PPAP.Fundamental knowledge of the factors that affect the reliability of automotive electronics.Technical knowledge of automotive qualification testing including Environmental verification procedures Preferred Qualification and Experience Masters of Science or higher in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.Working knowledge of IATF16949 Manufacturing standardsDirect experience with electronics at automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplierDesign For Six Sigma, DMAIC, Lean Six Sigma, or Shanin Red X certifiedExperience with PCB layout with an understanding of Symbol and Pads model creation
