Position Summary: Being a staff member at the UAV division, you’ll be researching and developing various UAS tech for ongoing / upcoming research projects. You’ll be working closely with other staff members as well as academic researchers of the lab.Your role involves creating mechanical components using CAD software, conducting tests to validate designs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This position demands creativity, technical expertise, and good knowledge in aerospace, electrical, software, systems, materials science, control systems, manufacturing, and reliability engineering disciplines to create innovative, high-performance UAS in a collaborative and dynamic environment.You will also be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of UAVs for various applications including tuning, testing and data collection. The role requires meticulous planning, preflight checks, execution, and post-flight analysis to ensure mission success and data accuracy. Responsibilities:Key ResponsibilitiesDesign mechanical components and systems for UAVs, including airframes, propulsion systems, and payload integration. Utilize CAD software to create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings.Develop and build prototypes for new UAV designs. Perform ground and flight tests to validate design concepts and performance. • Analyze test data and iterate on designs to improve UAV functionality and durability. Work closely with electrical, propulsion and aerodynamics staff members to integrate various UAV systems. Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback on team members' work. Communicate effectively with project managers to ensure project requirements are met.Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test reports, and manuals. Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.Operate UAVs in accordance with standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements. Develop detailed flight plans, conduct pre-flight, post-flight inspections and maintenance checks.Assess weather conditions and other environmental factors to determine flight feasibility. Be flexible with extended hours, travel, and schedule shifts to support testing needs.Manage inventory of UAV components, spare parts, and related supplies.Perform other duties as required.Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.Proficient with flying multirotor UAVs. Flying fixed wings & VTOLs is a plus.Familiarity with various UAV platforms, navigation systems.Strong knowledge of UAV integration. Strong understanding of aerodynamics, flight principles, and UAV technology.Strong understanding of materials science and manufacturing processes relevant to UAV construction. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Fusion 360 etc.). Proficient with UAS software (e.g., Ardupilot, PX4, Mission Planner, Qgroundcontrol etc.).Proficient with 3D Printing Software ( e.g. CURA, Bambu Slicer, etc.).Excellent situational awareness and decision-making skills. Proficient in data analysis and reporting. Accountability, Teamwork and cooperation, Cultural awareness, conflict management, well-organized and strong sense of responsibility. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
