Job Type : Full Time

Job Description

Project Objective:To conduct a detailed process study of Cold Rolled (CR) Steel Coil handling – from post-production storage, packing, and transportation (by rail/road), to unloading and unpacking at customer end. The goal is to identify pain points impacting product quality and efficiency, and to redesign the packing and logistics process with a focus on sustainability, including returnable packaging solutions.Key Responsibilities:End-to-End Process Mapping:Study current practices for coil handling prior to packing, including crane operations, coil orientation, and interim storage.Document packing process – including edge protectors, circumferential wrapping, strapping, skid mounting, etc.Analyze storage and loading operations, dispatch process (both rail and road), and transit conditions.Evaluate the unloading, storage, and unpacking procedures at customer locations.Pain Point Identification:Identify areas leading to coil damage, rusting, strap failure, or skid collapses.Study causes for quality complaints, particularly during transit and storage.Highlight inefficiencies in material handling, loading practices, and protective packaging.Sustainable Packaging & Process Redesign:Develop proposals for returnable and reusable packaging components (e.g., reusable skids, plastic cores, edge guards).Suggest improvements to coil protection, moisture control, and load securing techniques.Recommend revised standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling, loading, and unpacking.Assess environmental and cost benefits of proposed sustainable alternatives.Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting:Collaborate with Production, Quality, Logistics, and Customer Support teams.Visit customer locations (if required) to understand unpacking and storage pain areas.Prepare detailed reports, improvement recommendations, and present findings to leadership.Key Skills & Competencies:Product & Packaging Design Basics – understanding of coil geometry, mechanical protection techniques, skid and dunnage designOperational Excellence Tools – Lean, Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode Analysis (FMEA), Time & Motion StudiesSustainability in Packaging – familiarity with returnable/eco-friendly packaging conceptsMaterial Handling Knowledge – coil lifting, slinging, strapping, securing techniquesBasic CAD Tools – for packaging design layouts and prototyping (optional but preferred)Problem-Solving & Analytical MindsetStrong Documentation and Communication SkillsQualification:B.Tech in Mechanical / Industrial / Production / Packaging EngineeringFinal-year students or fresh graduates interested in industrial project rolesPreferred Background:Exposure to coil processing/handling environments (internship, industrial visits, projects)Understanding of material damage modes such as scratches, dents, corrosion, deformationKnowledge of railway wagon loading standards and road transport limitationsExpected Deliverables:Comprehensive process map of CR coil packing and transportationRoot cause report on damage and inefficiency pointsA proposed redesigned packaging system with returnable componentsSOPs and cost-benefit analysis for new solutionsFinal presentation to senior operations and packaging leadershipProject Duration:6–12 months (extendable based on project needs)Stipend: 20,000 Rs. Per month.
