About the Fellowhip:The objective of this fellowship is to allow orthopaedic surgeons to develop their surgical skills in arthroplasty through a work based program provided by Dr Udai Prakash and his team. The fellowship is recommended for surgeons who have completed their post-graduate training.Overview of the fellowship:This is a six or a twelve month fellowship program in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. The program aims to prepare the doctor for a career in arthroplasty and general orthopaedics too. The unit specialises in arthroplasty but a significant portion of the work is knee arthroscopy and complex fracture management. The program is designed to involve the fellow in a patient's journey from OP to discharge and beyond. He/she will also be expected to take part in the ongoing research projects and make presentations on a regular basis locally and nationally.About the doctor:Dr Udai Prakash, FRCS(Eng), FRCS(Edinburgh), FRCS(Trauma & Orth), CCST UKis the chief joint replacement surgeon at Udai Omni Hospital, Hyderabad, India. His interest also includes arthroscopic ligament reconstruction of the knee and complex trauma surgery.He did his general surgical and specialist orthopaedic training in Scotland and arthroscopy and arthroplasty fellowship training in Australia. He worked as a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire, UK from 2002–2012. Additionally, he was an Honorary Associate Professor and faculty member at University of Warwick. Until recently known as the Udai Clinic Orthopaedic Centre, the team joined hands with Incor’s Omni Hospitals and is now called Udai Omni Hospital.Our team is growing steadily with health professionals devoted to the care of patients with orthopaedic and associated traumatic conditions.Job Description of the Fellow:- Responsible for writing a detailed patient history. - Responsible for physical examination of admitted patients as directed.. - Assess all patients and present each patient case during the rounds in a clear manner, showing understanding of the cause of illness, diagnosis, care plan, and treatment outcomes. - Write an appropriate admission note which includes a plan of care and education plan for every patient admitted. - Initiate discharge planning. - Ensure that the senior resident is aware of any changes in the status of the patients, including any abnormal findings. - Ensure that the pre-operative communication and documentation with the patient and their care-taker. - Assist in surgeries procedures according to the level of training. - Supervise the daily clinical management of patients in conjunction with the nurse in charge and under the guidance of the treating physician/clinician. - Attend all postoperative patients on the day of operation and every day following. - To undertake emergency procedures, including resuscitation as required, and to take the lead as necessary. - To comply with all hospital policies and procedures, in particular to those relating to health and safety at work.
