Each course has multiple modules which has quizzes and exercises that can be attempted multiple times and a final exam, but this is only allowed to be taken twice with a passing score of 70% or higher:Cancer Registry Structure and ManagementCancer Registry OperationsCancer Disease Coding and StagingOncology Treatment and CodingFollow-Up, Data Quality, and UtilizationAbstracting MethodsComplete and pass all Practicum activities/assessments and pass the Core Competency assessments (total of 5 of them from NCRA via SEER*Educate platform) with a passing score of 70% or higher.Provide necessary paperwork for application for NCRA’s practicum and/or certification examination, as applicable.Spend at least 40 hours per week studying and familiarizing yourself with course materials in the office and possibly extra time during nights and weekends to study for the certification examination.Roles and responsibilities post clearing examination: Post clearance of the final examination, the employee will be assigned to a project where the employee will perform complex data abstraction (i.e. requiring interpretation) and data entry for specified diseases and project requirements.Participate and contribute to team meetings and learning sessions.Maintain a high level of medical knowledge and terminology and expertise of electronic medical record and data capture systems.Self report activities like time spent on records, audits completed including all relevant details and any other reporting functions assigned by Operations and QA management teams.Consistently comply with minimum quality levels indicated in the QA plan for each project ( >90% or higher accuracy depending on the project)Receive feedback from Quality Analyst and ensures timely reconciliation of errors. Employees may perform other duties as assigned.The Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) student is responsible for attending each day of work and completing all of the outlined activities provided by the Oncology Data Management team overseeing this program.There is a detailed timeline and assignments that must be completed to ensure timely submission of documents to be able to take the Oncology Data Specialist Certification Exam.The ODS Student is expected to pass the test by the second attempt, or they will be taken off the program.Once certification is attained, the employee is responsible for attending work each day on his or her assigned project and meeting productivity and quality standards, as well as earning the continuing education credits necessary to maintain the ODS-C credential.This job operates in an office environment.
