As we continue to scale our tech-led ecosystem, we’re looking for an engineering leader to build and grow the backend systems that power our product and business. Our platform diagnoses the patient’s hair & health history, to identify the root cause behind hair fall and delivers customized hair kits to them right at their doorstep. We have a strong adherence system in place via trained hair coaches and proprietary tech, where we guide the customer across their hair growth journey, and help them stay on track. Our Vision: Traya was created with a global vision to create awareness around hair loss, de-stigmatise it while empathizing with the customers that it has an emotional and psychological impact. Most importantly, to combine 3 different sciences (Ayurveda, Allopathy and Nutrition) to create the perfect holistic solution for hair loss patients. Why This Role Matters As Director of Engineering , you will be accountable for scaling and strengthening the entire backend engineering function. You will lead architecture modernization, team structuring, and delivery of complex backend initiatives that support millions of users and transactions. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role where you will own the evolution of our backend systems, mentor engineering leaders, and ensure backend tech becomes a growth enabler—not a bottleneck. What You’ll Own Technical Strategy & Architecture Define and drive the backend engineering roadmap in alignment with business and product goals. Lead architectural modernization: transition legacy services to microservices, ensure system scalability, and drive performance improvements. Champion engineering best practices in design, development, testing, observability, and security. Leadership & Team Building Manage and mentor backend engineering leads and senior engineers; build a high-performing and accountable engineering culture. Own backend org structure and hiring plan—build the right team composition to scale backend systems. Drive a culture of ownership, clarity, and continuous improvement. Delivery & Execution Excellence Ensure timely and high-quality execution of backend projects across core systems—subscription, payments, personalization engine, customer workflows, and internal tooling. Build scalable systems to support rapid growth in user base and product lines. Create engineering velocity through automation, CI/CD pipelines, and effective development workflows. Cross-functional Alignment Work closely with Product, Data, DevOps, QA, and Frontend teams to ensure backend capabilities support end-to-end delivery. Actively participate in cross-functional planning, risk management, and OKR discussions. Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders to provide technical insight and updates. What You Bring 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in backend development leadership roles. Deep expertise in Node.js, NestJS , microservices, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB in production-scale environments. AI Evangelist and to help team adapt AI and increase teams productivity to 3X with right tools Hands-on experience in designing highly available, distributed backend systems. Proven track record of leading architectural migrations and platform modernization initiatives. Excellent knowledge of API design, caching, queuing systems, and asynchronous processing. Experience working in fast-paced, product-led startups or growth-stage companies. Strong people management skills—mentored engineering leaders, created career ladders, and built high-trust teams. Data-driven mindset with a bias for action. Good to Have Experience with event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes) Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) Understanding of CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform) Exposure to D2C or health-tech platforms Your Team You will lead the entire backend engineering function (10–15+ engineers) and report to the VP of Engineering You’ll closely collaborate with leads across Product, Data, QA, and Frontend engineering.
