Role Overview Flexible role | Onsite or Remote | Part-time or Full-time The Permissions and Copyright Licensing Specialist is responsible for obtaining, managing, and ensuring compliance with commercial licenses for a wide range of books and educational materials. This role interacts with copyright holders—including government education boards (such as CBSE, GSEB), private publishers, and authors—to secure the necessary rights for commercial use across print and digital platforms. Key Responsibilities Research and identify copyright holders for diverse educational resources, textbooks, and literary works (e.g., materials from CBSE, GSEB, NCERT, private publishers). Initiate, track, and coordinate commercial licensing requests, applications, and negotiations with relevant rights owners. Analyze, negotiate, and finalize licensing agreements, ensuring terms clearly cover intended commercial uses (distribution, adaptation, translation, etc.). Liaise with legal teams and internal stakeholders to review and process contractual agreements. Maintain accurate records of rights, clearances, royalty payments, licensing terms, and renewal deadlines. Monitor and ensure the company’s compliance with all license terms and relevant copyright laws. Provide guidance and ongoing updates to content acquisition teams regarding licensing status, best practices, and regulatory changes. Stay current with international, national, and local copyright issues affecting the commercial use of educational and literary content. Required Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Law, Publishing, Intellectual Property, Communications, or related field. Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing copyright permissions and licensing processes, preferably in publishing, education, or media. Demonstrated knowledge of copyright law and licensing procedures; familiarity with both government (CBSE, GSEB, NCERT, etc.) and private publishing standards. Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects with strict attention to detail and deadlines. Proficiency in contract review, documentation, and regulatory compliance. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with major educational and literary publishers. Familiarity with multilingual educational content licensing. Understanding of digital rights management and online content platforms.
