Position Title: Head of Primary School The Head of the Primary School (HOP) is responsible for the oversight of the educational, administrative, and managerial activities of the Primary section of the School. The HOP provides exemplary leadership in all aspects of school life and supports the work of the Principal. He/she is responsible for the consistent application of school policies and procedures and thereby is the person most directly responsible for establishing and maintaining a climate that encourages primary students to develop fully their academic and social potential primary students, and for teachers to reach the highest possible professional standards. The HOP works as part of the Senior Management Team of the school and is responsible for communicating developments in the Primary section of the school to the SMT, as well as keeping abreast of developments in the Secondary section of the school. It is expected that all staff will present themselves in a professional manner; promote the values of the school; contribute positively to the goals of the school; support the work of colleagues; and work collaboratively and cooperatively as part of the school team. In particular, the HOP at all times not only abides by the ‘code of conduct’ laid down in the contract of employment, but also provides a model of exemplary professional conduct. Specific Tasks: Academic programs · Meet regularly with the Co-ordinators to review developments related to student learning programmes; · Ensure that collaborative curriculum planning occurs on a regular basis; · Ensure that assessment activities are consistent with CBSE requirements and expectations and that student progress is reported to parents in effective, meaningful written forms; · Allocate teachers to classes prior to the commencement of the academic year; · Develop the daily timetable for the primary school; · Arrange for cover in the case of teacher absences; Performance management · Support and monitor the work of the primary and EYP Co-ordinators; · Regularly observe teachers in action in the classroom, on supervision duty, and during co-curricular activities; · Resolve any matters of unacceptable or sub-standard professional practice in an effective and decisive manner; · Regularly communicate expectations about professional conduct to faculty, both individually and at meetings; · Conduct regular teacher appraisals in line with the school’s policy; Professional development · Organizing an effective orientation program for new faculty members; · Organize regular professional development activities within the school to ensure that all primary teachers understand and are able to meet CBSE/NCERT standards; · Assist the Principal to implement and review an annual professional development plan that meets the needs of individual teachers as well as the documented goals of the school; · Give provisional approval to teachers to attend professional development activities outside the school; · Develop and manage the annual professional development budget for the primary section; Policies and procedures · Assist the board to develop policies and procedures that will ensure the smooth running of the primary section of the school; · In conjunction with the Principal and the Head of Secondary, regularly review policies and procedures; School community · Implement the school’s guidelines for the compilation, editing and publishing of school materials; · Approve all official primary school correspondence and publications prior to presentation to the Principal; · Hold regular primary school assemblies; Academic Budget · Provide the Principal with a provisional budget for the running of the primary section of the school; · In collaboration with the primary and EYP co-ordinators, subject co-ordinators and classroom teachers ensure the timely collection of data for annual budgets;
