Job Description

Purpose/ObjectiveTo serve as the technical subject matter expert for copper smelting by identifying, evaluating, and recommending cutting-edge technologies, process enhancements, and value-added innovations across smelting and converting operations. The role focuses on driving strategic initiatives related to secondary metal recovery, energy optimization, by-product valorization, and ESG integration. This includes conducting global benchmarking, techno-economic evaluations, and solution design, while supporting the deployment of SAP-integrated systems for data-driven insights and process control. The position plays a critical role in enabling Adani’s copper growth vision by embedding futuristic, sustainable, and high-performance smelting capabilities.Key Responsibilities of RoleAdvanced Futuristic Technology in Smelting & Digital IntegrationIdentify, evaluate, and recommend state-of-the-art smelting technologies (e.g., ISA Smelt, Ausmelt, Flash Smelting) for enhanced thermal efficiency, matte quality, and emissions control.Develop technical feasibility assessments for secondary metal recovery through slag fuming, e-waste integration, and off-gas metal recovery systems.Provide expertise in integrating SAP PP-PI modules with DCS/SCADA systems and historian databases for real-time production analytics, traceability, and system diagnostics.Strategic Smelting Process InnovationLead process audits and simulation studies (e.g., CFD modeling, thermodynamic modeling via HSC Chemistry or FactSage) to optimize furnace reactions, matte-slag separation, and gas cleaning.Benchmark international smelter operations to identify process intensification and furnace integrity management practices.Recommend refractory lining strategies, converter design improvements, and off-gas scrubbing technologies to extend campaign life and meet regulatory compliance.Initial Financial AnalysisConduct techno-commercial evaluations of smelter technology upgrades and digital tool implementation and the projected ROI during operationsWork with finance and project teams to assess ROI, cost-benefit, and payback periods for key technology initiatives.Support budgeting for CAPEX and OPEX related to smelter modernization.Sustainability & ESG IntegrationRecommend smelting technologies aligned with decarbonization, energy efficiency, and zero-waste goals.Contribute to ESG reporting through technical data inputs and analysis on emissions, material recovery, and process sustainability.Promote circular economy practices by enabling integration of recycled materials and by-product recovery into smelting operations. Qualifications and ExperienceEducational Background Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Automation.Professional Experience Over 13 years of experience in smelting operations, digital automation, and SAP-based production tracking.Specialized Technical Knowledge required in Downstream Metals Applications & Advanced Manufacturing, Metals Market Intelligence, Metals Processing & Refining Know-How, Sourcing & Procurement Know-How
