Job Overview: The Tax Analyst (Customs) is responsible for managing customs-related tax compliance, analyzing duties, ensuring adherence to Indian customs regulations, and supporting trade operations. The role involves coordinating with customs authorities, preparing documentation, and advising on tax-efficient strategies for import/export activities. Key Responsibilities: Customs Compliance : Ensure compliance with the Customs Act, 1962 , Customs Tariff Act, 1975 , and related regulations, including Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) and GST laws. SEZ and EOU related laws Monitor changes in customs laws, trade policies, and international trade agreements (e.g., Free Trade Agreements - FTAs). Prepare and file accurate customs declarations, Bills of Entry, and Shipping Bills. Duty Assessment and Optimization : Calculate and verify customs duties, including Basic Customs Duty (BCD), Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST), and Social Welfare Surcharge. Identify opportunities for duty exemptions, concessions, or benefits under schemes like Advance Authorization , Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) , or Duty Drawback . Analyze Harmonized System (HS) codes for accurate classification of goods to optimize duty payments. Documentation and Reporting : Prepare and maintain customs-related documentation, including invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and licenses. File periodic returns and reports with the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) . Maintain records for audits and inspections by customs authorities. Liaison and Coordination : Act as a point of contact with Customs House Agents (CHAs) , freight forwarders, and logistics teams to ensure smooth clearance of goods. Coordinate with customs authorities to resolve queries, disputes, or delays in clearance. Represent the organization during customs audits or investigations. Audits : Conduct internal reviews to ensure adherence to customs and trade compliance requirements. Identify and mitigate risks related to non-compliance or misclassification of goods. Support during customs audits, including Post Clearance Audit (PCA) or Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB) reviews. Technology and Process Improvement : Utilize customs automation systems like Indian Customs EDI System (ICES) or Single Window Interface for Facilitating Trade (SWIFT) . Recommend process improvements to streamline customs operations and reduce clearance times. Stay updated on digital initiatives like Faceless Assessment under the Turant Customs program. Qualifications and Skills: Education : B Com, CA Inter Experience : 2–5 years of experience in customs, indirect taxation, or international trade compliance. Technical Skills : Strong knowledge of Indian customs regulations, GST, and FTP. Familiarity with HS code classification and customs valuation principles.
