Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus, Goa for a DRDO-Naval Research Board (NRB) sponsored research project titled “Propulsive performance and hydroacoustics of tandem flapping foils for bio-inspired marine applications” (NRB-510/HYD/23-24). Broad area of Research: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), Bio-inspired Flapping, Hydroacoustics Duration of the project: 3 years Fellowship Amount (Rs.): 37,000 pm + 16% HRA Accommodation: Hostel accommodation will be provided subject to availability and will be governed by the rules and regulations of the Institute prevailing at the time of joining of the candidate. Project Description: The project entails computationally studying the hydroacoustic performance of flapping as well as morphing foils for potential bio-inspired engineering applications. The candidate will be involved in developing and implementing numerical algorithms for hydroacoustic modeling of moving boundary problems, and analyzing the simulation results. Qualification: First class Post Graduate/ Graduate Degree (M.E./M.Tech./M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering/Computational Mechanics; Qualification in National Eligibility Tests: CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE. Candidates who have not appeared in the above examinations may still be considered for the position. Required Skills: Fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics; acoustic modeling; basic mathematics including calculus, linear algebra, finite volume method, finite element method and numerical analysis, programming skills and problem-solving skills. Desirable Skills: Passion towards problem solving using programming languages such as MATLAB/C/Fortran; computational fluid dynamics; tools such as Gmsh, OpenFOAM, Tecplot and an aspiration to pursue Ph.D. on the project topic.
