Position OverviewAs the Section Leader-Machine Shop, you will be responsible for leading daily Machining Operations across a range of Machines such as VMC, HMC, Double Column, CNC Turning, Hydraulic Press Brake, and Boring Machines. You will ensure Delivery Adherence, Quality, Safety, Operator Performance, and Continuous improvement in a high-mix, high-volume environment. The role demands strong technical depth in Machining and Leadership of a 60+ member workforce.Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities1. Production & Daily Work ManagementAccountabilitiesResponsibilities: Ensure daily machining targets are met as per customer delivery requirements.- Lead execution of daily machining plans and review performance in DWM meetings. - Supervise operations across VMC, HMC, Double Column, CNC Turning, Hydraulic Press Brake, and Boring Machines.- Ensure balanced manpower deployment across all shifts and machines. 2. Technical ExpertiseAccountabilitiesResponsibilities: Ensure high-accuracy, defect-free machining with proper program generation and execution.- Generate and optimize machining programs using GenCAM (or equivalent CAM software).-Ensure correct tool selection and setting, proper workholding methods, and zero-defect machining practices.-Guide operators on machining best practices and troubleshoot real-time issues.3. Team ManagementAccountabilitiesResponsibilities: Build and lead a high-performance machining team.- Lead a team of 60+ operators and team leaders across multiple machines and shifts.-Coach and mentor team leaders, enforce discipline, develop operator skills.-Manage multi-skill mapping, job rotation, and performance tracking.4. Quality & Process AssuranceAccountabilities Responsibilities: Ensure machining quality through mistake-proofing and corrective actions. Monitor in-process quality; implement control plans. Use RCCA methods and implement preventive actions.Coordinate with QA, NPD, and Tool Room for trials and validations.Monitor Bending and Machining Tool life and Tool inventory. 5. Customer Delivery & CommunicationAccountabilitiesResponsibilities: Ensure 100% adherence to customer delivery targets and reporting. Monitor plan vs actual, publish daily MIS on machine OEE, production output, rework, and delivery.Participate in customer delivery review meetings, provide production updates and recovery plans if needed.6. Maintenance & TPMAccountabilitiesResponsibilities: Ensure machine availability and upkeep via TPM practices. Drive AM, lubrication, and equipment checklist practices. Report equipment breakdowns; follow up with maintenance team for quick resolution.Maintain proper upkeep of magnetic tables, jigs, fixtures, and part handling equipment.7. Safety, 5S & ComplianceAccountabilitiesResponsibilities: Maintain safe and compliant work environment. Enforce LOTO, PPE, and safety audits. Conduct safety audits and toolbox talks regularly.Drive 5S, workplace discipline, and cleanliness with zero tolerance. Decision-Making AuthorityIndependent Authority: Planning of the machines in alignment with weekly and monthly planning Shift Planning and manpower planning Try-out of new substitute for tool and Process changes Resolving Quality problems BIQ System followup Improving the Skill level of the team Coordination with Maintenance for the PM / TPM Requires Management Approval: Implementation of the Major process improvements Implementation of breakthrough toolings Implementation of process changes that may affect quality and tooling life / ECNs Layout Changes Implementation of material Handling Equipments Reports to be Prepared and Submitted1. BIQ daily/ weekly reports Interactions & Work Environment External: ISO Audits Customers for the Delivery and Quality Suppliers for New tool try-outs , Fixture Try-outs Internal Quality / Maintenance / PPC / NPD / Paintshop / FOP shop / FAB shop / HR / Purchase Qualifications and Experience Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering Preferred: NTTF or CAM-certified professional Experience 10-12 years in machine shop leadership roles Hands-on experience with VMC, HMC, double-column, boring, CNC turning, hydraulic press brake Proven record of managing large teams (60+ operators) in mass production and high-variant environment Industry Knowledge: Fabrication Industry Tier-1 Auto Industry Skills and CompetenciesMust-Haves Expertise in GenCAM or equivalent CAM tools. Strong TPM, 5S, and OEE improvement know-how. SAP/ERP-based production tracking. MIS reporting and data-based decision making. Deep knowledge of tool setting, fixturing, machining parameters Nice-to-Haves Lean manufacturing & Kaizen exposure. Knowledge of jig/fixture and tool design principles. Experience in customer-handling for Q&D .
