The India-Lead Elimination Action Partnership (i-LEAP), an initiative of PIF, is committed to eliminating lead exposure in India. i-LEAP brings together public health and policy experts to engage stakeholders, generate robust evidence and develop actionable, evidence-based policy recommendations to guide government action. Role Overview The Pahle India Foundation (PIF) seeks Environmental Field Staff to execute the critical environmental sampling component of our lead exposure assessment study in the coal mining region. This role requires precision and adherence to technical SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). Staff will be responsible for collecting and processing diverse environmental and consumer product samples after receiving specialized training. Key Responsibilities Environmental Sample Collection: Systematically collect environmental media (soil, water, household dust) from community sites and private households, strictly following all technical protocols. Also, collect high-risk consumer product samples(including spices, paint, cookware and cosmetics) for subsequent laboratory analysis. On-Site Measurement and Data Capture: Operate handheld X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) devices for non-destructive, on-site measurement of lead concentration. Accurately record all field data, including XRF readings, sample location and logistical details, directly contributing to the study's database. Sample Integrity and Logistics: Execute detailed labelling and barcoding procedures to maintain the integrity and chain of custody of all samples. Ensure proper storage, packing, and secure transport, including adhering to the required cold chain conditions until lab transfer. Compliance and Reporting: Strictly follow all biosafety and environmental safety protocols to ensure personal protection. Maintain comprehensive sample logs and field records and assist the Field Coordinator with data coordination and periodic progress reporting. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Public Health, or a closely related scientific field. Experience (Desirable): Prior experience in environmental sampling or related fieldwork is preferred. Technical Skills: Demonstrated ability to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and proficiently handle specialized field equipment, such as X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) devices. Nature of Engagement This role is defined as temporary and site-specific, requiring robust local knowledge and a commitment to rigorous ethical standards for coordination. Candidates will be reimbursed for daily local transportation and lunch expenses in line with the organization's reimbursement policy. Please note that accommodation is not covered.
