Job Description

Purpose of the Role To ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of switchyard, electrical systems, and instrumentation equipment in the manufacturing plant. The role is critical in managing power distribution, preventing downtime, and ensuring statutory and safety compliance. Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance Operate and maintain 33KV/66KV/132KV/220KV switchyard equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, CT/PT, busbars, and relays. Monitor daily switchyard operations, perform inspections, and maintain logs. Ensure uninterrupted power supply to all manufacturing units through effective load management. Implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for electrical systems and panels. Troubleshooting & Repairs Diagnose and resolve faults in switchyard and HT/LT systems. Coordinate with OEMs and service providers for major breakdown rectification. Minimize downtime through timely intervention and root cause analysis (RCA). Compliance & Safety Enforce electrical safety protocols: LOTO, PTW, HT/LT switching, etc. Conduct periodic testing of protection systems, earthing, and interlocks. Maintain statutory records and ensure regulatory compliance. Prepare documentation for internal audits and external inspections. Project & Team Coordination Support installation and commissioning of new switchyard/electrical projects. Guide and train technicians and contract workers on safe and efficient practices. Suggest and implement energy-saving and system reliability improvement initiatives. Critical Tasks Switchyard operations monitoring and control. Fault diagnosis and emergency handling. Testing and calibration of protection systems. Preventive maintenance of HT/LT assets. Energy monitoring and optimization (PF, harmonics, load balance). Documentation: shift reports, energy logs, RCA, and equipment history. Technical coordination with internal teams and external vendors. Decision-Making Authority HT/LT switching operations during maintenance or faults. Load prioritization during limited supply or breakdowns. Emergency isolation of faulty systems to prevent damage/accidents. Scheduling and execution of maintenance activities. Engaging OEMs/vendors for specialized issues. Approving temporary workarounds or alternate supply. Stopping unsafe operations until compliance is ensured. Technician/contractor deployment for critical maintenance tasks. Required Skills & Competencies Deep knowledge of switchyard systems, protection relays, HT/LT operations. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Proactive safety enforcement and risk management. Leadership and team coordination capabilities. Effective communication and documentation. Ability to handle pressure and time-sensitive situations. Familiarity with energy efficiency practices and system audits.
