You will apply your computational modelling and optimization expertise to solve challenging problems in chemical process engineering. Beyond technical delivery, you will mentor junior engineers, influence key technical decisions, and help build the foundation for our domain-specific engineering practices as we grow.Required Skills & CompetenciesChemical Engineering FundamentalsApply core principles of thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, transport phenomena, and material balances to industrial problems.Translate theoretical knowledge into practical engineering solutions across diverse process contexts.Evaluate process feasibility, safety implications, and environmental considerations in design decisions.First Principles ModelingCreate and validate mechanistic models based on fundamental physical and chemical principles.Simulate chemical processes to predict system behavior under various operating conditions.Use models to optimize process design, control strategies, and scale-up procedures.Process Simulation SoftwareDemonstrate proficiency in one or more industry-standard platforms (Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, gPROMS, AVEVA PRO/II, DWSim, or IDAES).Build, troubleshoot, and validate steady-state and dynamic process flowsheets.Configure thermodynamic property packages and ensure convergence of complex simulations.Data AnalysisExtract, clean, and preprocess large datasets from process historians, laboratory systems, and simulation outputs.Perform statistical analysis to identify trends, correlations, and anomalies.Create clear visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights to stakeholders.Python ProgrammingDevelop scripts and applications for process data manipulation, analysis, and visualization.Automate repetitive engineering tasks, report generation, and simulation workflows.Write clean, modular, and well-documented code suitable for team collaboration.Communication & CollaborationPresent complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.Prepare comprehensive technical reports, design documents, and executive summaries.Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams including R&D, operations, data science, and management.Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge transfer initiatives.Preferred Skills & CompetenciesProcess Control & OptimizationDesign and tune control systems for chemical processes, including PID controllers and cascade loops.Conduct dynamic simulations to evaluate control system performance and stability.Formulate and solve optimization problems for process efficiency, yield maximization, and cost reduction.Experience with advanced control strategies (model predictive control, feedforward control).Apply techniques such as linear programming, nonlinear optimization, and mixed-integer programming to real-world scenarios.Advanced Modeling CapabilitiesDevelop custom models for non-standard equipment or novel process configurations.Integrate simulation outputs with external tools and databases for expanded analysis.Build interfaces between simulation tools, databases, and analytical frameworks.Machine Learning FundamentalsApply supervised and unsupervised learning techniques to process engineering problems.Build predictive models for soft sensing, fault detection, and quality prediction.Integrate data-driven models with first-principles simulations for hybrid modeling approaches.Evaluate model performance, manage overfitting, and validate results against process knowledge.Agile MethodologyLead or actively participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.Break down complex engineering projects into manageable tasks and deliverables.Adapt to changing priorities and deliver incremental value in iterative cycles.AI Tools FamiliarityEvaluate and integrate emerging AI-powered tools to enhance productivity and modeling capabilities.Apply generative AI assistants for code development, documentation, and problem-solving.Guide team members in the effective and responsible use of AI tools.Version Control (Git)Basic understanding on how to manage code repositories using Git, including branching, merging, and conflict resolution.Maintain clear commit histories and documentation for collaborative projects.Customer Project Proposal WritingAuthor compelling project proposals tailored to customer needs and business objectives.Define project scope, objectives, methodology, deliverables, and expected outcomes clearly.Develop budgets, timelines, and resource plans for proposed engagements.Collaborate with sales, business development, and technical teams to strengthen proposal competitiveness.Required QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.2+ years of hands-on experience in process modeling, simulation, or related technical roles.Demonstrated experience with at least one major process simulation platform (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, gPROMS, IDAES, or equivalent).Proven proficiency in Python programming for engineering applications.Strong foundation in chemical engineering principles and their industrial applications.Experience working in industrial or research environments with chemical processes.Track record of successful cross-functional collaboration.Preferred QualificationsMaster’s or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.3+ years of experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.Experience with process control systems and optimization techniques.Experience with machine learning applications in process engineering contexts.Experience
