Job Context:Birla Carbon is the world’s largest producer of carbon black and one of the largest producers of carbon nanotubes in the world today. The company is working on growth of the carbon black and carbon nanotube business by developing new carbons and supporting current carbon products to meet the future requirements of customers. It is a goal of the Specialty Carbon Black Business (SBB) Product Design and Development function in Plastics Applications to develop new products, and to serve our customers with technical service and quality assurance support through new product development and laboratory support. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the Plastics Laboratory, supervising lab techs, conducting and supervising experimental work in this area, reporting the results and developing mechanisms for the observed behaviour.Job Challenges: Setting up, execution and supervision of the laboratory, experimental programs and personnel. Preparation or procurement ofCarbon blacks, carbon nanotubes and other potentially novel materials, and studying the applications behaviour of these materials in rubber plastics (viscosity, color development, and conductivity among others). Also to develop correlations between process & performance.Major Challenges.Lead and drive experimental programs in carbon black and platforms R&DChallenges: Delivering on project objectives within budget and on time. Coordinate with vendors for supply of equipment and materials. Interact with stakeholders around the globe to ensure their support & collaboration.KRA1Design and execute set ups for Execute the final design through interaction with vendors (including experimental work; characterize & troubleshoot these vendor evaluation). Conduct all necessary pre-startup studies equipments for smooth operation; propose design changes as (HAZOP and PSSR) for safe operation of designed system. requiredKRA 2Supervise experiments; Devise a testing plan for the material Lead the experimental work on project; including procurement of produced; establish correlations between processing supplies and materials, regular maintenance of the equipment, and parameters and the product properties. Prepare the material design changes based on experimental results & future direction for external testing e.g. with customers required.KRA3Document all design & experimental work; present the data to internal teams as well as partners/customers with recommendationsReach definitive conclusions from the experimental data and develop a plan for next steps in the project.KRA4Lead the interaction with global collaborators and global customers while executing projects.Interact with stakeholders as required; be the lead person accountable for execution of the project.KRA5Responsible for managing plastics lab safely and efficientlyDuties include scheduling and training liquids team members, ordering supplies, maintaining safety standards.
