Role OverviewThe Garment Technologist is responsible for ensuring that all products meet the required standards of quality, fit, and performance for online retail. The role serves as a critical link between the Design, Buying, and Sourcing teams—translating creative concepts into technically accurate, production-ready garments while upholding brand expectations related to quality, sustainability, and cost efficiency.Key Responsibilities1. Product Development & Sampling- Collaborate closely with Design and Sourcing teams to develop product specifications, size sets, and spec sheets within Terra and Octa (PLM for Styli). - Prepare specification sheets based on the design team’s tech packs and share them with vendors for fit and pre-production samples. - Review prototype samples for construction, measurements, and workmanship, and provide precise, actionable feedback for improvement. - Conduct fit sessions using models or mannequins and finalize fit approvals for bulk production. - Ensure fit, measurement, and finish consistency across all product categories.2. Technical Specifications- Approve pre-production and production samples in accordance with brand standards. - Standardize size charts and grading rules, leveraging customer body data and online returns analysis. - Recommend suitable fabrics based on the design tech pack and product requirements.3. Quality Assurance- Establish and implement quality standards for materials and finished garments appropriate for e-commerce, including appearance, packaging, and durability. - Assess fabric performance, shrinkage, colorfastness, and wash standards. - Work collaboratively with QA/QC teams and vendors to resolve technical issues and reduce defect rates. - Support third-party testing and compliance processes as required by the brand.4. Vendor & Production Support- Provide technical guidance to factories and vendors throughout sample development and bulk production. - Evaluate vendor capability and capacity for relevant product categories. - Ensure timely approvals and production readiness in alignment with online launch timelines.5. Data & Digital Readiness- Support digital product creation (DPC) by supplying accurate specification data for 3D sampling or virtual try-ons using Clo3D and other digital tools as implemented. - Analyze online returns, customer feedback, and product reviews to drive continuous improvement in fit, quality, and performance.Key Skills & Competencies- Strong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and grading. - Expertise in fabrics, trims, and wash techniques. - Advanced knowledge of fit standards, measurement accuracy, and pattern adjustments. - Proficiency in PLM systems, Excel, and digital technologies such as CLO3D and Lectra. - Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with Design, Buying, and Sourcing teams. - Highly detail-oriented with a hands-on, analytical, and problem-solving mindset.Qualifications & Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Technology, Apparel Design, or Textile Engineering, with specialization in pattern making and grading. - 8–12 years of experience in garment technology, preferably within e-commerce or fast-fashion environments. - Experience across women’s western wear, men’s wear, and/or kidswear categories. - Familiarity with online product requirements and fit accuracy standards for digital shoppers.
