Job Description – Head of EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Industry:Real Estate / Construction Location:Mumbai Experience:15–20+ Years (Real Estate / Infrastructure / Construction Only) Qualification:BE/B.Tech in Civil Engineering + Safety Certifications (NEBOSH/IOSH/ADIS/PG Diploma in Industrial Safety)1. Role Overview TheHead of EHSwill lead and oversee the Environmental, Health, and Safety strategy across all real estate projects (Residential, Commercial & Redevelopment). The role demands strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and proven experience in implementing safety systems across high-rise, Mivan, RCC, and large-scale construction projects. You will ensure 100% compliance with statutory norms, risk management, safety audits, training programs, and enforcement of safe construction practices across multiple sites.2. Key Responsibilities A. EHS Strategy & Leadership Develop and implement a robustEHS vision, strategy, policies, and annual safety planfor all projects. Establish astrong safety cultureacross site teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Drive continuous improvement in safety performance using data, audits, and incident analytics. B. Compliance & Statutory Requirements Ensure strict compliance with: Factories Act, BOCW Act, Environmental Protection Act Pollution Control Board norms Fire & Life Safety regulations National Building Code (NBC) Manage documentation, licenses, NOCs, audits, and regulatory inspections. Liaison with government bodies (BMC, DISH, MPCB, MOEF, etc.). C. Site Safety Management Establish and monitorsafety protocols for Excavation, RCC works, Mivan shuttering, crane operations, hot works, height works, scaffolding, formwork & lifting operations . Conduct routine site inspections and enforce compliance. Ensure proper PPE usage, safety signage, equipment certification (cranes, lifts, hoists), and emergency response systems. Monitor HIRA/JSA compliance at all work fronts. D. Incident & Emergency Management Lead investigations for near-misses, accidents & fatal incidents. Prepare root cause analysis (RCA), CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Action), and ensure implementation. Develop and conductEmergency Response Drills , Fire Evacuation Plans, and Disaster Preparedness Programs. E. Contractor Safety Management Develop contractor onboarding safety processes. Conduct safety capability evaluations before contract award. Enforce compliance with Work Permits, SOPs, Method Statements & Tool Box Talks. Monitor labor welfare facilities as per legal norms. F. Training & Safety Culture Building Prepare annual training calendars for internal teams & contractors. Conduct safety trainings such as: Work at Height Confined Space Fire Safety Electrical Safety First Aid Mivan & RCC Specific Hazards Build aZero-Incident Cultureacross the organization. G. Environmental Management Implement environmental protection, sustainability & waste-management programs. Ensure compliance for: Air & water quality monitoring Noise pollution control Waste segregation & hazardous waste management Green building & sustainability standards (IGBC/LEED—optional) H. Reporting & Documentation Develop and maintain safety MIS, dashboards, and site-wise performance reports. Present monthly EHS performance to management. Maintain all licenses, statutory registers, and audit records. 3. Skills & Competencies Required Strong technical knowledge ofconstruction safety , EHS laws, and risk management. Hands-on experience inhigh-rise building construction, Mivan, RCC, excavation, heavy machinery . Excellent leadership, decision-making & problem-solving skills. Strong communication, documentation & stakeholder management abilities. Ability to manage multiple sites and large contractor workforce. Expertise in EHS audits, digital reporting systems & incident analytics. 4. Must-Have Certifications NEBOSH IGCor equivalent Advance Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS)/PGDIS Fire & emergency response certifications (preferred) 5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Reduction in TRIR / LTIFR / Accident Frequency Rate 100% compliance with statutory requirements Contractor safety performance Quality of safety audits & timely closure of non-compliances Training effectiveness & safety culture improvement Incident reporting, RCA quality & CAPA execution
