Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Server Engineer to manage, optimize, and support our enterprise server and storage infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in VMware virtualization, Linux systems administration, and enterprise storage platforms (HPE/Hitachi). This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-availability environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability across mission-critical systems. Key Responsibilities: Design, deploy, and maintain VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vSphere environments. Perform Linux server administration (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) including patching, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and automation. Manage and support HPE 3PAR, Primera, Hitachi VSP or equivalent enterprise storage systems (provisioning, zoning, replication, performance monitoring). Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies for servers and storage. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for complex server/storage issues and implement permanent fixes. Collaborate with application, network, and security teams for infrastructure integration. Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and capacity reports. Implement and optimize monitoring solutions for proactive infrastructure management. Participate in infrastructure upgrade, migration, and consolidation projects. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance for escalated issues. Required Skills & Experience: 7+ years of experience in enterprise server/storage administration. Strong hands-on experience with VMware virtualization technologies (ESXi, vCenter, vSphere, vSAN, vMotion, HA, DRS). Expertise in Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) system administration, scripting (Bash, Python, or Ansible preferred). Proven experience with HPE (3PAR, Primera) and Hitachi VSP storage systems including replication, thin provisioning, and performance tuning. Knowledge of SAN/NAS technologies, zoning, multipathing, and fabric management (Brocade/Cisco MDS). Familiarity with backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup) and disaster recovery processes. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Experience in capacity planning, performance optimization, and infrastructure automation. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams. Soft Skills & Expectations: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in complex environments. Ability to lead projects independently and mentor junior team members. Effective communicator – able to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficient in documentation, change management, and risk assessment. Comfortable working in 24x7 mission-critical environments (with possible on call support). Education & Certifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Preferred Certifications: VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher. Nice to have: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent Linux certification. HPE or Hitachi storage certifications. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud integration. Knowledge of ITIL processes and experience in enterprise IT operations.
