We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated SolidWorks Surface Modeling Engineer on a contract basis to contribute to the aesthetic and functional design of thier next-generation medical products. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in creating complex, organic surfaces for high-precision, patient-facing devices, focusing exclusively on plastic parts.This role is NOT SUITABLE for job seekers WITHOUT 4 + years of experience in plastic product design and advanced surface modeling, along with high proficiency in SolidWorks, particularly in Surfacing and Plastics modules. If you are not meeting this criterion, please do not applyKey Responsibilities- Advanced Surface Modeling (Plastic Focus): Utilize expert-level SolidWorks surfacing tools to design complex, aesthetically driven, and ergonomic plastic parts, such as handles, patient contact surfaces, and device housings. Focus must be on achieving high-quality, organic, and manufacturable plastic geometries. - Design & Development: Translate industrial design concepts and 2D sketches into high-quality, manufacturable 3D SolidWorks surface and solid models, ensuring design intent is captured. - Model Optimization for Injection Molding: Optimize CAD models specifically for plastic injection molding, with a strong focus on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) considerations like draft, wall thickness, parting lines, and tool design feasibility for plastic components. - Documentation & Detailing: Generate precise 2D engineering drawings, including the correct application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Bill of Materials (BOM) for plastic assemblies. - Collaboration: Work closely with Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers, and Manufacturing teams to ensure the plastic surface models integrate seamlessly into the overall mechanical and electronic assemblies. - Prototyping Support: Prepare and modify plastic CAD models for rapid prototyping (e.g., 3D printing) and coordinate with internal/external vendors for prototype fabrication. - Design Review: Actively participate in design reviews, providing expert input on surface quality, aesthetics, and design feasibility for plastic components. - Compliance: Adhere to strict medical device design control procedures and maintain accurate design history file (DHF) documentation.Required Skills & Qualifications- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related field. - Experience: 4+ years of professional experience in CAD design, with a significant focus on complex SolidWorks Surface Modeling. Experience in the Medical Device/Technology industry is a strong advantage. - SolidWorks Expertise (Mandatory): - Expert proficiency in SolidWorks surfacing features (e.g., Boundary Surface, Lofted Surface, Fill Surface, Surface Knit, Freeform). - Strong skills in SolidWorks Part, Assembly, and Drawing modules. - Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or similar data management systems.Technical Knowledge:- A thorough understanding of plastics design for injection molding is essential. - Deep knowledge of plastic material properties and selection. - Proficiency in applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). - Basic understanding of engineering principles and various plastic manufacturing processes. - Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent visual communication skills, high attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, regulated environment.Contract Specifics- Job Type: Contractual - Contract Duration: 6 Months - Location: Pune, India (On-site)
