The role is critical to ensuring high-quality, defect-free rail welds through precise control of welding parameters, rigorous quality checks, and reliable operation of Flash Butt Welding (FBW) machines.The incumbent will be responsible for both operational execution and technical maintenance of mobile or stationary Flash Butt Welding plants, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. This role requires hands-on involvement in welding activities, machine upkeep, documentation, and coordination with quality and USFD teams to ensure full compliance with acceptance criteria.ResponsibilitiesFlash Butt Welding Operations- Execute and supervise Flash Butt Welding of rails strictly as per RDSO-approved procedures and welding parameters. - Ensure correct alignment, pre-checks, flashing cycles, upset force, and post-weld finishing for every weld. - Monitor weld quality, dimensional tolerances, and process consistency during production. - Maintain complete welding records, traceability documents, and compliance reports. - Coordinate with Quality teams for visual inspection, bend tests, sample testing, and weld acceptance.FBW Machine Maintenance- Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of Flash Butt Welding machines (mobile or fixed). - Handle and troubleshoot electrical systems, mechanical assemblies, and hydraulic circuits including pumps, valves, cylinders, clamps, slides, and shear units. - Identify faults, minimize downtime, and ensure uninterrupted welding operations. - Maintain spares inventory, maintenance logs, calibration records, and equipment history.Quality, Safety & Compliance- Ensure strict adherence to RDSO standards, QAP requirements, and internal SOPs. - Coordinate with USFD teams for ultrasonic testing of welds, defect analysis, and corrective actions. - Implement and monitor safety practices related to high-voltage electrical systems and high-pressure hydraulics. - Promote a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement at the welding site.QualificationsBE./B.Tech / diploma in Mechanical /Electrical Engineering.10-15 years of experience preferredRequired SkillsMandatory experience in Flash Butt Welding of Rails (mobile or stationary plants). Strong knowledge of RDSO Guidelines, welding acceptance criteria, and USFD test requirements. Hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic maintenance.
