About Sustainology Sustainology Climate Solutions is building the Renew Hope Initiative —modular biogas systems that convert organic waste into clean biogas + nutrient-rich biofertilizer , designed for reliable deployment in real-world, low-infrastructure settings. The role We’re hiring a Biogas Systems Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep, hands-on experience designing, building, commissioning, and troubleshooting biogas digesters across multiple system types and scales (including flexi/bag digesters ). This is a remote, contract role with periodic on-ground support for commissioning, audits, and troubleshooting. Key responsibilities Lead technical design reviews and optimization for biogas digesters across small, medium, and hub-scale deployments Provide sizing and engineering guidance: feedstock handling, HRT/OLR , mixing, piping, valves, safety, gas storage/pressure control Recommend practical solutions for H₂S and moisture management , leak prevention, flame arrestors, PRVs, condensate traps, and safe appliance delivery Create commissioning plans and field-ready documentation: SOPs, checklists, troubleshooting guides, operator training Support vendor selection, QA/QC, BOM/BOQ validation, materials compatibility, and acceptance testing Troubleshoot operational issues (remote-first, site visits as needed) Must-have qualifications 8+ years experience in building b iogas digester systems (design + build + commissioning) Proven expertise across multiple digester types such as flexi/bag , fixed dome, floating drum, plug-flow, CSTR, CBG Plants, modular/containerized systems Strong anaerobic digestion fundamentals and practical engineering judgment Experience with Waste Handling, Management, and Treatment for optimised gas production Ability to produce/validate drawings and documentation (PFD/P&ID, layouts, specs, BOQ) Strong safety mindset: methane handling, H₂S risk, pressure systems, confined spaces, and field protocols Nice-to-have Experience delivering large-scale biogas projects in Africa / South Asia Digestate handling knowledge (separation, storage, application protocols) Familiarity with sensors/monitoring and field data capture (flow meters, pressure logging) What we offer Remote work with flexible hours High ownership and real-world impact at scale Competitive consulting rate aligned to experience Opportunity to influence a flagship biogas roll-out program
