Role Overview The Structural Design Engineer – Hydropower & Dams is responsible for the analysis, design, and delivery of structural components associated with hydropower and dam projects. This role involves working across feasibility, detailed design, and construction support phases, ensuring compliance with international codes, safety standards, and project requirements. Key Responsibilities 1. Perform structural analysis and design of hydropower and dam-related structures, including: 2. Concrete and embankment dams 3. Spillways, intake structures, powerhouses 4. Penstocks, surge shafts, tunnels, and appurtenant structures 5. Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs in accordance with relevant international and local standards (e.G. ICOLD, Eurocodes, ACI, BS, IS, AS). 6. Carry out static and dynamic analysis, including seismic and hydrodynamic load assessments. 7. Prepare design calculations, drawings, technical reports, and specifications. 8. Review and validate designs prepared by junior engineers and external consultants. Education Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred). Experience 5–10 years of relevant experience in structural design for hydropower and/or dam projects. Proven experience across design development and construction support phases. Technical Skills Strong proficiency in structural analysis and design software, such as: STAAD, SAP2000, ETABS, MIDAS, PLAXIS (or similar) Experience with reinforced and mass concrete design, foundation systems, and seismic design. Working knowledge of dam engineering principles, load combinations, and durability considerations.
