Position Overview:This position is responsible for execution of standard tasks that fall under the data platform administration domain.Key Responsibilities:Data Platform Administration:Manage and maintain the following (but not limited to) data platforms:DataOps. Live – open-source Gitlab platform and infrastructure administration Qlik Replicate – change data capture tools against relational and document database sources and targeting cloud data warehouseOracle Goldengate – change data capture against Oracle database sources and targeting KafkaAdministration tasks of above platforms include (but not limited to):Problem diagnosis & resolutionConfiguration, Patching, and Upgrades On-Call Rotation (after introductory period)Cloud & Hybrid EnvironmentsSupport on-prem, hybrid and cloud-based data platformsMicrosoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)Windows Server and Linux AdministrationKubernetes, Docker containers, etc.Monitor and optimize data platform usage and costs (FinOps)Performance & OptimizationConduct performance tuning and optimization efforts.Analyze workloads and recommend improvements.Implement capacity planning and resource management.Security & ComplianceEnforce data security policies, including access controls and encryption.Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).Perform regular audits and vulnerability assessments.Automation & ScriptingDevelop and maintain automation scripts for backups, monitoring, and deployments.Use tools like PowerShell, Python, or Bash to streamline administrative tasks.Support Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices using tools like Python, YAML, Terraform or Ansible.Collaboration & SupportWork closely with data engineers, developers, and analysts to support data workflows.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior administrators.Participate in incident response and root cause analysis.Participate in project planning and technical design. Provide support to application developers and collaborate with other teams.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in computer science or related field - 16 years of formal education.7+ years of experience with data platform administration/engineering or equivalent work.Advanced knowledge of data platforms, principles, and security.Advanced proficiency with SQL.Experience with Windows and Linux server administration.Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and automation tools.Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.Confirmed ability to acquire knowledge of new data technologies while on the job.Confirmed ability to execute tasks independently, to self-initiate work, and to engage with work deeply.Confirmed ability to pay meticulous attention to details.Confirmed ability to meet goals and deadlines.Confirmed ability to quickly diagnose issues and come up with solutions and/or workarounds.Confirmed ability to work independently or collaboratively and maintain a positive attitude.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism always.Exercise self-control under trying or tough circumstances, situations, or under any kind of pressure.Experience with 24x7 on-call.Availability for 24x7 on-call on a rotational basis.Availability for after-hours and weekend work (as needed).
