Job Title: Senior Architect Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu Company: Modulus Housing Experience: 3+ years About Modulus Housing Modulus Housing is a technology-driven design startup working to industrialize construction. We design and deliver prefabricated and modular building systems that enable faster, more predictable, and scalable construction across housing, infrastructure, and industrial applications. Our work spans PEB, Precast, LGSF, and Portabin / modular cabin structures delivered through a tight integration of design, engineering, manufacturing, and execution. About the Role We are looking for a Senior Architect to take ownership of architectural design and execution across our existing construction systems - including PEB, Precast, LGSF, and Portabin / modular cabin structures . The role focuses on applying, configuring, and scaling proven construction systems to real projects - working closely with Business Development, Engineering, and Industrial Design teams. You will lead architectural thinking from early feasibility and concept design through execution, ensuring solutions are buildable, scalable, and commercially viable. Key Responsibilities Architectural System Design Lead architectural design for projects using PEB, Precast, LGSF, and modular cabin systems Develop layouts, massing studies, and architectural strategies within predefined system constraints Ensure designs are manufacturable, repeatable, and execution-ready Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with BD teams on feasibility studies, concept proposals, and client discussions Coordinate with engineering teams to align architectural intent with structural and services design Interface with industrial design and manufacturing teams to ensure consistency across products and projects Design Execution & Governance Prepare architectural drawings, layouts, and design intent documents Review and validate engineering drawings from an architectural standpoint Support the team during execution to resolve design issues Product & System Stewardship Act as the architectural custodian for Modulus’ existing construction systems Define customization limits, architectural guidelines, and standard modules Continuously improve architectural quality, usability, and visual coherence of built outputs Special Projects – Energy-Efficient Buildings Lead special design initiatives focused on energy-efficient and climate-responsive buildings Develop and integrate passive cooling strategies Collaborate with engineering teams to improve thermal performance, comfort, and energy efficiency Apply sustainability thinking within the constraints of modular and industrialized systems Required Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Architecture 3+ years of professional experience Strong exposure to PEB / Precast / LGSF / Modular or industrialized construction Experience working with engineers, factories, or execution teams Proficiency in Rhino 3D/ Grasshopper, AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, SketchUp, Adobe, or equivalent tools Strong understanding of construction detailing and system-based design Design Task So here’s your challenge: Modular construction is fast, but often architecturally rigid. How would you design a G+1 containerized café or restaurant using an existing container system? If your instinct is to ignore design constraints, this role will frustrate you. If constraints feel like an interesting design problem, we should talk. You’ll work at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and business, out of IIT Madras Research Park, helping shape how industrialized buildings actually get delivered. Submission: Submit your response along with your CV and portfolio to Subject line: “Senior Architect – (Your Name) – Modular Systems Task.”
