The successful candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of protection relay systems, secondary systems, and control panel schematics. This role requires hands-on experience in panel schematic review, testing of protection schemes, and verification of secondary systems functionality.Key Responsibilities:Panel Schematics Review: Thoroughly review and analyze electrical panel schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system layouts to ensure the correct design and functionality of protection and control systems. Validate the proper connections and functionality of relay outputs, trip circuits, and auxiliary systems.Commissioning of Protection and Control Systems: Perform the commissioning of protection relays, control systems, and associated secondary equipment in the substation environment, ensuring that all systems are operating according to design specifications and industry standards.Protection Types and Relay Coordination: Ensure proper application of protection relay types, including distance protection, differential protection, overcurrent protection, and transformer protection. Confirm correct settings, coordination, and sequence of operation for each protection scheme in the system.Testing and Calibration: Conduct thorough testing of protection relays, control systems, and associated equipment using standard tools and software (e.g., Omicron, CMC, or ETAP). Perform relay testing, CT/VT polarity checks, functional testing, and calibration for accurate system performance. Validate the operational functionality of trip logic, alarms, and auxiliary equipment.Secondary Systems Testing: Verify the proper operation of secondary systems such as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), remote terminal units (RTUs), communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, IEC 61850), and auxiliary control circuits. Ensure seamless integration of control systems with protection relays and ensure proper data communication between field devices and central control systems.Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve any faults, wiring errors, or configuration issues during commissioning. Analyze and resolve issues related to relay operation, circuit breakers, control panels, and communication systems. Provide on-site support during startup to resolve technical problems quickly and efficiently.Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of all commissioning activities, including test results, wiring diagrams, and protection settings. Prepare final commissioning reports, including as-built diagrams, settings files, and any issues or changes encountered during the commissioning process.Collaboration and Client Interaction: Collaborate with project engineers, designers, and site personnel to ensure smooth commissioning processes and to resolve any discrepancies found during site inspections. Work directly with clients to ensure satisfaction with the commissioning process, providing technical advice as necessary.Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety standards and regulations during commissioning activities. Conduct safety audits and hazard assessments as required for substation commissioning tasks.Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. (Diploma holders with relevant experience may also apply)Experience: 2-4 years of experience in protection and control system commissioning, including hands-on experience with testing and troubleshooting protection relays, control panels, and secondary systems in substations. (Candidates with right skills but lesser experience may also apply)Technical Skills:Panel Schematics and Diagrams: Extensive experience reviewing and interpreting panel schematics, wiring diagrams, and control layouts.Protection Relays: In-depth knowledge of various protection relay types (e.g., distance, differential, overcurrent, transformer, and busbar protection), including relay settings, coordination, and fault analysis.Testing Equipment: Proficiency in using protection relay test equipment (Omicron, CMC, ETAP, etc.) and performing fault analysis, protection coordination, and system verification.Secondary Systems: Familiarity with substation communication systems (IEC 61850, Modbus, etc) and SCADA/RTU systems integration.
