SummaryWe are seeking a Platform Engineering Staff Lead to architect, build, and scale our customer-facing, event-driven retirement funds management platform. This role requires a polyglot engineer with deep expertise across frontend, backend, database architecture, systems integration, observability, performance engineering, security, and resilience. The ideal candidate will lead technical design, mentor engineering teams, and drive platform reliability and recoverability standards in a highly regulated fintech environment. This is a hands-on leadership position balancing strategic architectural influence with direct contribution to critical systems.Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform Architecture & Engineering- Design and implement scalable, event-driven architectures supporting real-time - transaction processing, fund allocations, and customer portfolio management. - Lead full-stack development across React 18 (Web), hybrid mobile (iOS/Android), - Node.js BFF layer, and Java Spring Boot/Spring MVC + GraphQL backend services. - Architect integration patterns for third-party financial data providers, custodians, payment - processors, and regulatory reporting systems. - Define platform patterns for service decomposition, API design, message-driven - workflows, and CQRS read/write optimization. - Drive adoption of contract-first and specification-driven development methodologies to - accelerate delivery velocity and cross-team collaboration.Database Architecture & Data Strategy- Architect and implement polyglot persistence strategies leveraging Azure Cosmos DB - (document store), Azure SQL Database (OLTP), Azure Cache for Redis (session - management), and Azure SQL / Azure Database for PostgreSQL. - Design CQRS patterns with optimized read and write data models, including event - sourcing for audit trails and regulatory compliance. - Define data partitioning, sharding, and consistency models for high-volume transactional - workloads and multi-region replication. - Implement session state management patterns for stateless, distributed applications with - sub-millisecond access requirements. - Architect time-series data storage for portfolio performance tracking, market data ingestion, and analytics workloads. - Lead data replication & migration strategies, backup/restore procedures, and point-in-time recovery capabilities aligned with RTO/RPO objectives. - Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and database connection pooling across OLTP and analytical workloads. - Ensure data encryption at rest and in transit, compliance with financial data residency requirements, and audit logging for regulatory scrutiny.Reliability & Resilience Engineering- Establish and enforce RTO/RPO objectives, SLO/SLI/SLA frameworks, and error budget - governance aligned to customer-facing transaction reliability. - Implement chaos engineering practices and automated resilience validation using tools - like Gremlin, Litmus, or custom fault-injection frameworks. - Lead disaster recovery strategy, multi-region failover design, and cross-region data - replication patterns for financial workloads. - Design self-healing systems with automated circuit breakers, graceful degradation, and - adaptive retry logic. - Architect database failover automation, read replica promotion, and geo-redundant - backup strategies.Observability & Performance- Working closely with SRE, Build comprehensive observability frameworks leveraging - Dynatrace, Azure Application Insights, OpenTelemetry, and distributed tracing across - full-stack services. - Integrate performance testing (JMeter, Gatling, k6) into CI/CD pipelines with automated - baseline validation and regression detection. - Define performance budgets for page load, API response times, database query - latencies, and transaction throughput mapped to customer experience SLIs. - Monitor and optimize database performance metrics including query execution plans, - connection pool utilization, and replication lag. - Analyze telemetry data to identify bottlenecks, optimize resource utilization, and reduce - tail latencies across application and data tiers.Security & Compliance- Lead implementation of secure-by-design principles including OWASP Top 10 - mitigations, zero-trust architecture, and defense-in-depth strategies. - Collaborate with compliance and security teams to meet SOC 2 and financial industry - regulatory requirements. - Architect secure authentication and authorization patterns (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, PKCE) for - multi-surface applications. - Implement database-level security controls including row-level security, encryption key - management via Cyberark or Azure Key Vault, and audit logging. - Adopt security left shift mindset & Drive vulnerability scanning, dependency - management, and automated security testing integration (SAST/DAST) during Dev and - CI/CD builds. Use tools like Snyk for enforcement.Systems Integration & Vendor Management- Design and maintain integration layers for custodial platforms, payment gateways, - market data feeds, and identity verification services. - Evaluate and integrate third-party fintech APIs with focus on reliability, latency, and fault - tolerance. - Build reusable integration accelerators and abstraction layers to minimize vendor lock-in - and simplify provider substitution. - Architect data synchronization patterns for external data sources with conflict resolution - and eventual consistency handling.Engineering Leadership & Collaboration- Mentor engineers across platform, frontend, backend, data, and QA disciplines on - architecture, design patterns, and engineering excellence. - Participate in or Drive technical decision-making through RFC processes, architecture - review boards, and design forums.
