Job Description:The Firmware Validation Engineer is responsible for validating system firmware and Board Support Package (BSP) components to ensure platform stability, power efficiency, and feature readiness across multiple hardware configurations. This role focuses on BIOS/UEFI, core firmware components, display, power, USB, and embedded controller (EC) validation, ensuring systems are production-ready for performance, power profiling, and battery life optimization. The engineer works closely with firmware development, hardware, OS, and platform teams to qualify firmware releases, identify issues early, and drive resolution through structured debugging and validation processes.Key ResponsibilitiesFirmware & Feature ValidationPerform end-to-end firmware validation across platforms, focusing on:Display validation (boot display, resolution switching, external display, panel initialization, GOP validation)Power feature validation (S0ix, S3/S4, sleep/resume, hibernate, idle power states)Validate firmware behavior across different system states including boot, shutdown, sleep, resume, and thermal transitions.Execute regression testing for firmware changes and new feature enablement.BSP Integration & Release ValidationSupport BSP integration and release cycles, ensuring firmware readiness for OS and platform teams.Perform BSP QA and validation, including:Display and USB subsystem validationPlatform bring-up readiness checksValidate BSP stability using:System Pulse testingExtended run / stress testingHours of Battery Life (HBL) scenariosEnsure systems meet quality gates to proceed with power profiling, performance tuning, and power experiments.Component Qualification & Firmware Stack ValidationQualify and validate core firmware components, including:BIOS / AMI UEFICoreboot (where applicable)Embedded Controller (EC) firmwarePower Delivery (PD) firmwareGraphics Output Protocol (GOP)Graphics Firmware (GFW)Verify interoperability and hand-off between firmware layers (BIOS → OS → drivers).Validate firmware updates and version compatibility across components. Debugging & Issue ResolutionIdentify, isolate, and debug firmware-related issues using logs, firmware traces, and platform tools.Work closely with firmware developers and silicon vendors to root-cause issues and validate fixes.Track defects, validation status, and release readiness using defect management tools.Documentation & ReportingCreate and maintain validation plans, test cases, and execution reports.Document known issues, workarounds, and firmware limitations.Provide clear validation sign-off recommendations for BSP and firmware releases.Required Skills & Experience Technical SkillsStrong experience in firmware/BIOS/UEFI validationHands-on knowledge of BSP validation and platform bring-upUnderstanding of: o Power management features and battery life optimization o Display pipelines and graphics firmware o USB subsystems and enumerationExperience validating EC, PD, GOP, and graphics firmwareFamiliarity with System Pulse testing, stress testing, and long-duration validationStrong debugging skills with logs, firmware tools, and platform diagnostics
