This role is critical to accelerating delivery, improving coverage, and ensuring high-quality guest experiences across our digital platforms.The ideal candidate understands how to combine UI automation, API testing, CI/CD integration, and scalable test architecture to build a robust automation ecosystem. They are proactive, analytical, and comfortable leading both strategy and hands-on implementation.Key Responsibilities:Automation Strategy & LeadershipLead the design, development, and maintenance of automated test frameworks for web and mobile applications using Playwright (JavaScript).Define and implement the automation roadmap aligned with product and engineering goals.Determine the appropriate level of testing (API vs UI) based on application risk, reliability, and performance considerations.Mentor junior automation engineers and help establish coding standards and best practices.UI + API AutomationBuild automated UI tests for web and mobile flows using Playwright.Develop and maintain API-level automated tests to support integration, data validation, and faster end-to-end coverage.Create workflows that combine API setup + UI validation to reduce test time and improve reliability.Ensure automation covers core user journeys, offers, promotions, payments, and cross-platform behaviors.CI/CD Integration & StabilityIntegrate automation suites into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, etc.).Implement quality gates, test triggers, and automated reporting to prevent issues from reaching production.Diagnose failures in CI or production environments and drive long-term fixes such as mocking, test data stabilization, or pipeline improvements.Test Reliability & MaintenanceEnsure automated tests remain stable, fast, and valuable as the product evolves.Implement best practices such as page objects, test data management, feature toggles, and parallel execution.Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering to keep tests aligned with product updates.Continuously refactor tests to reduce flakiness and improve maintainability.Cross-Team CollaborationWork with developers to expand unit and API test coverage to shift quality earlier in the pipeline.Partner with manual QA, product managers, and data teams to ensure full coverage across backend, frontend, and services.Participate in release planning, risk assessments, and quality strategy discussions.Required Qualifications:5+ years of experience in QA automation, with at least 2+ years as a lead or senior engineer.Strong hands-on expertise with Playwright using JavaScript/TypeScript.Experience testing web and mobile applications (browser + mobile web; native a plus).Strong understanding of API testing, REST principles, and integrating API tests with UI workflows.Experience diagnosing and stabilizing automation failures in CI or production environments.Solid understanding of modern CI/CD systems and pipeline design.Knowledge of best practices for test design, test data management, and test architecture.Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to engineering, QA, and non-technical stakeholders.Preferred QualificationsExperience in retail, e-commerce, or high-volume transactional systems.Background in performance testing, mocking, contract testing, or visual regression testing.Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.Success Looks LikeA stable, scalable automation suite that reduces manual regression efforts and accelerates releases.Clear strategies for when to automate at the API level vs UI level.CI/CD pipelines that catch issues early and block risky deployments.Automated tests that remain reliable as the application evolves.Strong collaboration and leadership across engineering and QA teams.SummaryThis Automation Lead will play a key role in innovating and maturing our automation capabilities.
