The Senior Engineer – Apigee X API Platform is a hands‑on Technical Lead responsible for delivering high‑quality Apigee engineering outcomes with speed and consistency. This role combines deep technical expertise with active participation in day‑to‑day engineering work, guiding the team through example and direct contribution. The Senior Engineer works as part of a team focused on enabling Citizen API Developers across the enterprise to successfully adopt and use Apigee for API management. They help build and maintain the self‑service capabilities that allow developers to onboard, discover APIs, create and manage their own APIs, deploy through CI/CD pipelines, and access API analytics and reporting. This role requires strong Apigee API delivery skills and the ability to act as a trusted subject matter expert. The Senior Engineer builds APIs, troubleshoots complex issues, supports developers through coaching and office hours, and ensures platform capabilities are reliable, scalable, and easy to consume. As the organization continues its API platform transformation, the Senior Engineer also contributes to migrating APIs from legacy platforms to Apigee, using automation at scale and refactoring where needed to ensure smooth consumer cutover. This is a critical execution role at a key point in the platform’s evolution, directly influencing adoption, developer experience, and the success of Apigee as the enterprise API platform. We are seeking a skilled Senior Engineer with hands-on experience in Apigee X to join the API Platform team. This is a Technical Team Lead role that will be actively engaged on engineering activities while coaching and managing a team. This role is focused on API Enablement Engineering: you will build and maintain Apigee APIs, troubleshoot issues, and support citizen developers through office hours, troubleshooting and coaching. You will contribute to self-service enablement capabilities, maintain CI/CD pipelines, automate API governance, and enhance API discoverability and the developer portal. Additionally, you will assist with migrating APIs from other legacy API platforms to Apigee, with a focus on automation, ensuring quality, functionality, and smooth API consumer cutover. Key Responsibilities Deliver and maintain Apigee APIs meeting enterprise quality, performance, security, and reliability standards. Act as a hands‑on Technical Lead, guiding team execution through direct contribution, code reviews, technical decision‑making, and example. Serve as a subject matter expert for Apigee, supporting Citizen API Developers through office hours, troubleshooting, and day‑to‑day platform usage. Coach developers on API design, lifecycle management, security, and Apigee best practices to drive consistent adoption across the enterprise. Build and evolve self‑service platform capabilities, including API onboarding, templates, automation, and developer documentation. Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines for API deployments and automate governance through linting, policy enforcement, and standards compliance. Build, maintain, and improve API discoverability, analytics, and the API developer portal experience. Support API migrations from legacy platforms to Apigee, leveraging automation at scale and refactoring edge cases to ensure smooth consumer cutover. Troubleshoot complex platform and API issues and provide SME-level support during incidents and critical delivery efforts.Required Skills & Experience 8+ years of software engineering experience including 4+ years in API and integration engineering, operations or support Hands‑on experience delivering APIs using Apigee X, with deep understanding of the full API lifecycle, including design, deployment, versioning, and operations. Strong expertise in RESTful API design, OpenAPI specifications, and API security concepts. Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines for API deployments and implementing API governance through standards, templates, linting, and automated policy enforcement. Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, or similar), with demonstrated ability to build and maintain automation that reduces manual effort and improves repeatability Ability to troubleshoot complex API and platform issues and coach developers in using Apigee effectively, leading through technical contribution and collaboration.
