Job Description

Suitable candidate for this role is an emerging technical professional in Surface Water Modelling. You will be rendering end-to-end Hydraulic and Hydrological Modelling, along with allied engineering services for Surface Water systems, including Stormwater Management. The role involves collaborating closely with design engineers and peer groups across India and Australia, while reporting to Head of Department in India.A proven, hands-on practical command of TUFLOW is essential, as this will be critical to success in this role. Prior exposure to Australian flood‑modelling projects is highly advantages, as the position requires familiarity with Australian industry standards, modelling practices, and regulatory frameworks. Experience with Dam Break modelling following ANCOLD guidelines is also highly desirable.Additional expertise in modelling software such as HEC-RAS, XPSTORM, DRAINS, ICM and RORB, along with competency in GIS tools and AUTOCAD, will be preferred. The ideal candidate would be a motivated early-career professional who has worked on international projects, especially Australian flood modelling assignments utilising TUFLOW.Responsibilities- Undertake surface water assessments and designs to support the Geoenvironmental design team for projects in the Waste Management, Mining, Renewable Energy and other Industrial Development sectors across all regions in Australia and internationally. - Provide inputs to stormwater infrastructure designs. - Develop 2D hydraulic models utilising TUFLOW and HEC-RAS for riverine floodplains, mine sites, urban developments and various other settings. - Preform 2D model checks, calibration and interpret outputs. - Prepare flood modelling deliverables, including technical memorandums/ reports, flood mapping such as depth, velocity and risk hazard. - Interpret Australian guidelines for hydrology and hydraulic assessments, including climate change. E.g., Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR). - Perform hydrological modelling using RORB, XPRAFTS or similar tools (highly desirable). - Interpret and manipulate geospatial datasets using ArcGIS or QGIS and post-process modelling results to develop GIS based mapping outputs. - Apply sound engineering judgement and best practices to arrive at technical decisions that drive innovative, fit-for-purpose and value-engineered solutions to meet project and client needs. - Undertake Dam break modelling and risk assessments (highly desirable). - Ensure that all technical risks are understood, managed, assigned to the organisation best placed to manage the risk, and that these are well communicated to the project team and/or the client. - Support delivery of registrations of interest, pre-qualifications, project proposals/bids, fee estimates, project work programmes and budgets. - Work with project leadership to plan projects through proper scoping with appropriate inputs, outputs, verifications and project reviews. - Peer review work done by colleagues and team members as necessary. - Liaise and work closely with Sector leadership and peer groups across India and Australia; Act as a brand ambassador of GCC within WSP in India across geographies; Create opportunities to share learnings, improvements, new tools, better practices etc. with the wider team. - Civil engineering, especially the stormwater management infrastructure detailed design experience. - Proficiency in TUFLOW and experience with Australia-based flood modelling projects. - Proficiency in other hydraulic modelling software such as HEC-RAS, XP-SWMM/STORM, DRAINS. - Proficiency in hydrological modelling utilising RORB, XP-RAFTS, WBMN, AWBM and understanding of ARR, including climate change guidelines (highly desirable). - Fluency in spoken and written English and able to communicate ideas and complex technical matters. - Dam break modelling and understanding of ANCOLD (highly desirable). - Familiarity with detailed design documentation and specifications - Able to develop and promote technical innovations and out-of-the-box ideas; Persuasive. - Effective problem solver engaging sound problem solving techniques and appropriate analysis; Application of knowledge learning principles. - Can positively impact and influence office culture with and optimistic and dynamic outlook towards opportunities; Can work collaboratively with different stakeholders and across cross-cultural teams; Ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully. - Display drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done with high levels of motivation and energy; Project credibility demonstrate professionalism and inspire confidence with high emotional intelligence and self-awareness of strengths and potential areas for development - Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail; Able to perform independently and/or under minimum supervision. - Ability to work independently on hydraulic modelling & related designs,Desired SkillsSoftware Proficiencies- MUST HAVE software proficiencies: TUFLOW - HEC-RAS, XP-SWMM/STORM, DRAINS, RORB, XP-RAFTS, WBMN, AWBM will be preferred. - GIS packages and CAD.Qualifications- Masters Degree in Water Resource Engineering or Environmental Engineering or similar - Member of a professional body like CIWEM, ICE etc.Experience- 5-8 years of experience in Hydraulic and Hydrological Modelling including at least 4+ years of hands on experience using TUFLOW or HEC-RAS. - Past experience in Australian projects.
