Job Description

Role OverviewBigtec Labs is seeking a Lab Incharge (Biology) to oversee the day-to-day operations of its biology R&D laboratories. The role is critical in ensuring that the lab operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with internal quality systems while focusing on assay development and translational research.Key Responsibilities1. Laboratory Operations & Coordination- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily biology lab activities to ensure smooth execution of ongoing R&D programs. - Manage lab schedules, space utilization, and shared resource allocation across teams. - Track ongoing experiments and workstreams, proactively identifying and resolving operational bottlenecks.2. Consumables, Reagents & Inventory Management- Maintain adequate stock levels of laboratory consumables, reagents, chemicals, and PPE. - Implement and manage inventory control systems including min/max levels, usage tracking, and reorder planning. - Ensure proper storage conditions, including cold-chain management where applicable. - Maintain lot traceability, expiry tracking, Certificates of Analysis (CoA), Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) and related records. - Coordinate with procurement, finance, and vendors to ensure timely ordering, tracking and delivery.3. Equipment & Infrastructure Management- Ensure availability, calibration, preventive maintenance, and servicing of laboratory infrastructure, equipment and instruments. - Ensure the maintenance of equipment logbooks, service records, and calibration documentation. - Monitor and maintain refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and other critical equipment, including temperature logs and alarm responses. - Act as the primary interface with service providers for breakdowns and maintenance.4. Documentation & Quality System Support- Maintain laboratory registers and records including reagent logs, sample registers, equipment usage logs, and maintenance records. - Support the creation, updating, and controlled implementation of SOPs related to lab operations. - Ensure training records for lab users are maintained and up to date. - Support audits, inspections, and internal quality reviews as required.5. Safety, Biosafety & Compliance- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, chemical handling, and waste disposal norms. - Ensure availability and proper use of PPE throughout the labs. - Conduct routine checks for safe lab practices and housekeeping. - Report, document, and support closure of any safety incidents or non-conformances.6. Team Enablement & Support- Train and onboard new lab users on laboratory SOPs, equipment usage, and good laboratory practices (GLP). - Provide hands-on support to resolve routine operational or equipment-related issues. - Act as a central operational point of contact for biology lab users.Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc. or equivalent) in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or a related discipline is a minimum. - 3 to 5 years of Hands on experience. - Strong practical exposure to biology laboratories - Experience with PCR / RT-PCR workflows is desirable.
