DescriptionThe role of RAMS /SESA (Reliability Availability Maintainability SafetySystems Engineering and Safety Assurance) Engineer is to undertake undertake planning and coordination of rail systems’ life-cycle processes to rail related engineering and operational assessment and analysis to provideassurance that systems under reviewthe systems of interest are developed in accordance with the agreed specifications and re acceptably safe and / or available for rail operational service. The assessment and analysisSESA activities can be undertaken at anycover all stages of a the railway rail system life- cycle from conception through specification, design, manufacture, test and commissioning, operations and, maintenance. , modification and less frequently decommissioning. The role therefore, therefore, requires a broad knowledge and experience of allin engineering and operational aspects of railways rail systems coupled with well-developed assessment and analysis skills.ResponsibilitiesThe RAMS/SESA Engineer will be responsible for (not limited to)will be required to perform and support the following activities:• Planning and coordinating systems life cycle processes to design and implement rail technology projects.• Preparation of SESA documentation, including management plans and reporting.• Management of requirement engineering, interface analysis (integration management) and verification & validation activities.• Contribute to the design definition and system architecture for complex systems.• Perform system safety activities including hazard/risk analysis and contribute to the preparation of system safety case reports.• Support reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) activities.• Consulting and engaging with stakeholders and multi-disciplinary design teams.• Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor project engineering activities.1. Preparing RAMS analysis such as:• Preliminary Hazard Analysis.• Sub system Hazards Analysis.• System Hazard Analysis.• Operations and Support Hazard Analysis.2. SA / RAMS Planning such as:• Safety Management system development.• Project Safety / RAMS plan development.• Operational Safety / RAMS plan development.• Safety Management System implementation.• Assurance Audits and Assessments such as:3. Independent Competent Person Audit / Assessment.• Independent Safety Assessment.• Independent Verification and Validation.• Design Verification.4. Detailed assessment and analysis:• Preparing and managing of Hazard log.• Preparing and assessment of Qualitative and Quantitative riskassessment.• Development of detailed analysis including:I. FMECA.II. FTA / ETA.III. Root Cause Analysis.IV. Reliability / Availability modelling.5. RAM implementation planning such as:• Development of reliability Proof documentation (RAM demonstration planning).• Development of reliability assurance documentation• (Reliability Growth Analysis, Reliability demonstration reporting from both physical and predicted data.)• Development of maintainability demonstration planning and reports.• Development of RCM planning and implementation.6. Operational Safety Analysis:• Assessment of operational safety across technical and operational process aspects.• Development of operational plans and procedures for safety operations.7. Incident Management Planning and Investigation such as:• Emergency and Crisis management process development.• Incident management procedure development.• Incident investigations.Key Competencies / and SkillsCandidates should be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of across all railthe following rail SESA aspects:engineering aspects and operations with specialist in at least one key areasuch as:• Working knowledge of systems engineering standard ISO 15288 and INCOSE systems engineering handbook.• Understanding the application of the relevant system assurance standards (such as EN50126, EN50128, EN50129 and IEC 61508).• Exposure to using systems engineering tools such as IBM DOOR Next is well regarded.• The ability to coordinate and integrate systems safety and RAM activities within the design process.• Rail or transport sector knowledge, including tramways, light rail, rapid transit, mixed-traffic metropolitan passenger and freight, is preferable.• The ability to work closely with peers in teams and build relationships with stakeholders.• The ability to understand client needs and effectively meet and exceed their expectations.• Passionate about delivering better client outcomes through high-quality systems engineering and assurance performance.• Train Control / Signalling• Rolling Stock.• Station equipment.• Telecommunications.• Track infrastructure.• Structures.Qualifications• Candidate should preferably be a Degree in Engineering.• 8+ years of experience on in RAMS rail systems.• 5+ year’s years of experience on in the Railway RAMS systems engineering and safety assurance processes.• 2 – 3 year’s experience on International Rail projects would be added advantage.
