Job Description: HVAC Engineer – Data CenterJob Title: HVAC Engineer – Data CenterExperience: 5–10 YearsLocation: Pan India / International ProjectsIndustry: Data Center / Critical InfrastructureEmployment Type: Full TimeRole SummaryThe HVAC Engineer – Data Center will be responsible for the design, execution, testing, commissioning, and operation support of HVAC systems for hyperscale and retail data center facilities. The role ensures high availability, energy efficiency, redundancy, and compliance with global data center standards.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Engineering- Design HVAC systems for data centers including chilled water systems, air-cooled / water-cooled chillers, AHUs, CRAH, In-Row cooling, DX and VRF systems. - Perform heat load calculations, airflow analysis, redundancy planning (N, N+1, 2N). - Prepare Basis of Design (BoD), design reports, layouts, single line diagrams, and technical specifications. - Ensure compliance with ASHRAE TC 9.9, TIA-942, Uptime Institute and local codes. - Support energy-efficient cooling strategies such as hot aisle/cold aisle containment and free cooling where applicable.Execution & Site Management- Oversee HVAC installation activities in coordination with civil, electrical, and IT teams. - Review and approve shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals. - Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors for timely execution and quality control. - Monitor site activities to ensure adherence to approved drawings, safety standards, and project schedules.Testing, Commissioning & Validation- Plan and execute pre-commissioning, commissioning, and integrated system testing (IST). - Conduct functional testing of chillers, pumps, AHUs, CRAH units, and controls. - Coordinate with commissioning agents and third-party auditors. - Support Uptime Institute Tier certification readiness and audits.BIM & Coordination- Review and coordinate BIM models (Revit, Navisworks, Revizto) for clash detection and system integration. - Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings. - Ensure HVAC systems integrate seamlessly with BMS, EMS, and DCIM platforms.Commercial & Vendor Management- Prepare BOQs, technical bid analysis (TBA) and support vendor selection. - Evaluate HVAC equipment based on performance, reliability, and lifecycle cost. - Assist in billing, cost control, variation management, and documentation.Required Skills & CompetenciesTechnical Skills- Strong knowledge of data center cooling concepts and critical infrastructure. - Hands-on experience with CRAH, In-Row cooling, chilled water plants, cooling towers, and air distribution systems. - Familiarity with ASHRAE TC 9.9 thermal guidelines. - Knowledge of Uptime Tier I–IV requirements. - Experience in hyperscale and colocation data center projects preferred.Software & Tools- HAP / equivalent heat load software - AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks - MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint - Primavera (preferred)Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering - IOSH / safety certification preferred - Additional certifications in data center design or commissioning are an advantageBehavioral Competencies- Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills - Ability to work in fast-paced, mission-critical environments - Analytical and problem-solving mindset - Proactive, detail-oriented, and quality-focusedPreferred Experience- Experience working with hyperscale clients (AWS, Google, Microsoft, STT, Equinix, etc.) - Exposure to 36 MW+ data center facilities - Experience in international projects is a plusReporting To- HVAC Lead / MEP Manager / Data Center Engineering Manager
