Role Summary You will lead laboratory establishment, concrete mix development, testing, and pilot-scale production activities, while supporting applied research and industry-facing engagements. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with coordination across research institutions, project teams, and cement and concrete industry stakeholders. Key Responsibilities - Establish and operationalise new concrete laboratory facilities, including development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control (QC) norms, safety protocols, and documentation systems. - Develop, test, and optimise a wide range of concrete mix designs, including high-value and high-performance concretes for structural and non-structural applications. - Conduct testing of concrete in fresh and hardened states, including preparation of mortar and concrete specimens, testing, analysis, interpretation of results, and reporting. - Lead laboratory-scale and pilot-scale production of different types of concretes using supplementary cementitious materials and industrial by-products. - Manage pilot production of structural and non-structural grade concretes and concrete products, including raw material selection, characterisation, process optimisation, and performance analysis. - Provide technical testing, analysis, and troubleshooting support to internal research and project teams. - Coordinate with external and institutional research laboratories for collaborative research, validation studies, and joint testing activities. - Engage with ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants, cement manufacturers, and construction industry stakeholders to understand operational challenges and provide customised, application-oriented technical solutions through site visits and field support. Key Skills & Competencies - Strong technical expertise in cement chemistry, concrete technology, and materials testing. - Hands-on experience in laboratory setup, pilot production, and quality systems. - Ability to translate research and testing outcomes into practical, industry-ready solutions. - Strong analytical, documentation, and coordination skills. - Comfort working across research, field, and industry environments. Qualifications - Postgraduate degree in Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering. Experience - Minimum 6 years of post–Masters experience, of which at least 3 years must be within the cement and/or construction industries.
