As part of this acceleration, ENGIE is establishing a strengthened Supply & Energy Management (S&EM) capability in India to support merchant exposure management, market access, optimization, and future trading requirements.PurposeThe Head of Trading & Portfolio Management – India will build, develop and lead ENGIE’s market-facing capabilities in spot trading[DS1] , market analysis, and portfolio management to support ENGIE’s growing asset base and clients portfolio.While the forward trading component will remain limited initially, the role will also develop the strategic foundations required for forward market readiness as India’s regulatory framework evolves and liquidity deepens.This Trading & Portfolio Management role is attached to our Expertise Centre Trading & Optimization in order to benefit from our global expertise & experience. The role also partners closely with Origination teams to develop a commercial franchise that will support our portfolio activities.Initially, the role involves operational, hands-on, and strategic tasks during setup and team building, then shifts to greater leadership and strategy.Responsibilities: Leadership & Capability BuildingDefine and implement the roadmap for Trading & Portfolio Management activities in India, aligned with ENGIE’s accelerating growth in renewables and flexible assetsBuild, lead and mentor a high‑performing team across spot trading, portfolio management, market analysis, and, when relevant, future forward trading.Design and Implement ENGIE’s S&EM operating model, including processes, tools, and governance required to support market‑facing activities ; develop the strategic foundations required for forward market readinessEnsure full adherence to ENGIE’s S&EM Risk, Compliance & Ethics framework and external regulations, fostering a culture of disciplined risk management and operational excellenceStrengthen cross-functional collaboration with R&F and within S&EM across India, Europe and Singapore to leverage global expertise and align with ENGIE group best practices.Represent ENGIE in interactions with regulators, system operators and market bodies to help shape market design and ensure compliancePortfolio ManagementDevelop and maintain a complete and consistent representation of the ENGIE India upstream (renewables, BESS assets) and downstream (Utility and Commercial & Industrial clients) portfolioIdentify and capture portfolio synergies across assets, commercial activities, and market positionsCollaborate with R&F teams on tenders requiring, flexibility, merchant risk assessment or portfolio integrationPropose and execute hedging strategies aligned with R&F risk appetite, Enhance client engagement by tailoring portfolio solutions to evolving Customer & Industrial clients needs, strengthening ENGIE’s market positioning.Advise and lead the execution of R&F hedging strategies in line with their risk appetite and PL targetsMonitor the performance of these strategies and the financial performance of individual books and the aggregated portfolio, adapting approaches as markets and portfolio evolveSpot TradingLead ENGIE’s participation in short term markets such as Real Time Market, Day Ahead Market Term Ahead Market and RECOptimise merchant exposures to maximise value while staying within risk mandate, regulatory boundaries and ENGIE’s operating framework. Develop and embed best practice, operational discipline for daily market participation.Market analysisEstablish strong market intelligence capabilities covering fundamentals, intermittency patterns, system constraints and regulatory developments. . Build forecasting tools, analytical frameworks and reporting structures that support R&F investment decisions, Trading and Origination.Deliver timely, accurate and actionable insights to support ENGIE’s commercial, operational and strategic decisions in IndiaYOUR PROFILE Education: Degree in relevant discipline e.g. Engineering, Economics10+ years of relevant experience Knowledge, skills & experience: Relevant experience on Indian physical power market trading & optimization as well as Green PPAs.Some experience in power derivatives & hedging strategies.
