About CompanyAt Uravu Labs, we are dedicated to making human life more sustainable and communities more resilient. We believe in the need for breakthrough technologies in the water industry to create a sustainable future for everyone. Our patent-pending and award-winning 100% renewable water technology uses atmospheric moisture and renewable energy to produce high-quality drinking water. Scalable to large quantities, our solution serves industries and communities in a decentralized and carbon-neutral way. We deliver impactful outcomes for water initiatives and aim to completely rethink how we experience water. How We StartedFounded in 2019, Uravu Labs was born out of a shared vision to address water scarcity issues, particularly inspired by the founders' own experiences on the NIT Calicut campus during their studies. Driven by a passion for innovation and sustainability, Uravu Labs embarked on a mission to develop cutting-edge solutions that could extract water from the air using renewable energy sources. The company's journey began with the realization that existing methods were not entirely sustainable due to their heavy reliance on electricity and the use of refrigerants with high global warming potential.Determined to make a difference, the founders set out to create a solution that would be truly renewable and sustainable, resulting in groundbreaking technology that harnesses renewable energy to produce clean water from the air.Role OverviewWe are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with 5+ years of hands-on experience in product design and manufacturing to join Uravu Labs. You will work on designing and scaling our breakthrough atmospheric water generation (AWG) technology - liquid desiccant systems that extract drinking water from air using 100% renewable energy. This role requires someone who can independently own mechanical design tasks for thermal and fluid systems, work closely with our fabrication team, and drive designs from concept to production as we scale from pilot units to high-volume manufacturingKey ResponsibilitiesSystem Design & DevelopmentDesign and develop mechanical systems for atmospheric water generation equipment including absorbers, desorbers, heat exchangers, and fluid handling systemsCreate detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing-ready drawings for thermal systems, pressure vessels, and process equipmentDesign sheet metal assemblies, piping systems, and structural frameworks for larger capacity AWG systemsSupport scale-up from prototype units to standardized, modular production systemsManufacturing & Fabrication CollaborationWork closely with in-house teams and external vendors to validate designs for manufacturabilityCollaborate on metal fabrication, machining, welding, sheet metal work, and fluid system assemblyEnsure designs meet food-grade safety standards (FSSAI compliance) and material compatibility requirementsOptimize designs for cost, performance, manufacturability, and ease of assemblyPrototyping & TestingSupport rapid prototyping, design iterations, and performance testing of thermal and fluid systemsParticipate in leak testing, thermal performance validation, and system commissioningImprove existing designs based on field testing feedback and production learningsCross-Functional CollaborationWork with thermal engineers, automation engineers, and production teams for system integrationCollaborate with supply chain and procurement teams on component selection and vendor coordinationSupport project timelines, BOMs, and design documentation for manufacturing handoverRequired Skills & ExperienceBachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering3–6 years of experience in mechanical design and product developmentStrong proficiency in SolidWorks (primary CAD tool at Uravu)Good understanding of manufacturing processes: machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, piping, assemblyAbility to create and interpret detailed engineering drawings with GD&TExperience designing components and assemblies for productionKnowledge of tolerance analysis, DFM (Design for Manufacturing), and design optimizationGood to Have (Strongly Preferred)Experience with thermal systems, heat exchangers, HVAC, refrigeration, or process equipmentExposure to fluid systems, pressure vessels, or pharma/food-grade equipment designBackground in manufacturing or hardware product companiesExperience working with fabrication vendors and shop-floor teamsAbility to manage multiple design tasks independently in fast-paced environmentsExposure to renewable energy, climate tech, or water tech systemsCurrent Projects You'll Work OnScaling 2k LPD and 10k LPD atmospheric water generation systemsData center waste heat integration projectsContinuous production system design for commercial deploymentWhy Join Uravu!!Work on 100% renewable water technology.Be part of a fast-growing climate tech startup.Own end-to-end mechanical design.Build decentralized, carbon-neutral water systems.
