We’re hiring aBackend Engineer – Platform (Node.js, MySQL, MongoDB, Scalable Systems)to help build the backend foundations of VoiceStack, an AI-powered enterprise phone system for healthcare. Our backend systems process millions of events and API interactions, where performance, data design, and reliability actually matter. You’ll work on shared backend services, database and performance optimization, and platform capabilities that power the entire product - not on UI or feature-heavy work. This role is for engineers who care about how systems are designed, scaled, and sustained. If you’re inclined toward platform or system architecture, this role is your runway.Core Responsibilities:● Backend Platform Services: Build and maintain shared backend services and libraries used across teams, with clear ownership and well-defined interfaces. ● Database & Performance Engineering: Design and optimize data models, queries, and access patterns across MySQL and other datastores to meet performance and scalability needs. ● Architecture & Scalability: Contribute to system design decisions with a focus on scalability, fault isolation, and long-term maintainability. ● Reliability Basics: Implement defensive patterns such as timeouts, retries, graceful degradation, and sensible defaults in backend services. ● Developer Enablement: Improve common tooling, service templates, and conventions that make backend development consistent and predictable. ● Observability Foundations: Ensure services emit meaningful logs, metrics, and traces to support debugging and production visibility.Technical Requirements:We expect a “systems thinking” approach. You should be as comfortable discussing database locks as you are discussing deployment pipelines. ● Backend Engineering: Strong experience building non-trivial backend systems; Node.js (TypeScript preferred) is our primary stack, but we care more about engineering fundamentals than language-specific expertise. ● Databases: Strong hands-on experience with relational databases (MySQL preferred) and familiarity with document stores like MongoDB, with a solid understanding of data modeling, indexing, and query optimization. ● Performance Mindset: Ability to reason about latency, throughput, bottlenecks, and trade-offs in backend systems. ● Architecture Interest: Comfortable discussing service boundaries, data flow, and failure scenarios - even if you’re still growing in this area. ● Infrastructure Basics: Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and running services in a cloud environment (AWS/GCP). ● Messaging (Nice to Have): Exposure to event-driven systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis, etc.) is a plus.Location: TrivandrumYOE - 5-7
