Description As Principal BIM Technician Geo-environmental, you will lead the design, development, and management of complex CAD and BIM models for multidisciplinary engineering and infrastructure projects. This role requires advanced technical proficiency, a strong understanding of industry standards, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams to deliver high-quality design solutions. An ideal candidate will have the ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to continuous improvement in processes and workflows.Responsibilities Develop, review, and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings for a variety of projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements and Australian standards. Produce accurate 3D civil infrastructure models using Autodesk Civil 3D, including surfaces, alignments, corridors, and point data. Manage and process spatial/geospatial data to support design and documentation workflows. Prepare high‑quality engineering drawings, plans, profiles, and construction documentation. Coordinate with engineers and project teams to ensure design intent, technical standards, and project requirements are met. Maintain CAD standards, model accuracy, and quality control throughout the project lifecycle. Assist in data exchange workflows, including GIS/CAD integration and digital deliverables. Lead the coordination and integration of digital design models across multiple disciplines such as civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Conduct quality checks and audits of CAD deliverables to ensure compliance with project specifications and company standards. Collaborate with engineers, architects, project managers, and other stakeholders to resolve design issues and optimise design solutions. Mentor and provide technical support to junior modellers and drafters, supporting skill development within the team. Utilise and contribute to CAD libraries, templates, and standards to enhance efficiency and consistency. Stay up to date with the latest CAD advancements, tools, and industry best practices, recommending improvements where appropriate. Participate in project meetings, offering expert input on modelling strategies, design intent, and constructability. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities to meet deadlines and deliver high‑quality results.Required Skills and Behaviours Minimum of 12 years’ experience in Civil Design modelling, preferably within the Australian engineering or construction industry. Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D (corridors, surfaces, grading, pipe networks, data shortcuts, sheets). Expert in understanding of spatial data/GIS concepts & modelling (SHP, DEM, coordinate systems, georeferencing). Advanced proficiency in industry-leading Civil Design software (e.g., Autocad Civil 3D (Preferred), 12d, OpenRoads). Strong understanding of Australian standards and codes relevant to drafting and design. Proven experience in multidisciplinary coordination and clash detection. Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work. Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work autonomously. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly. Highly organised, with robust time management and prioritisation skills. Adaptability to changing project requirements and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Demonstrated alignment with WSP’s values, risk management practices, and ethical standards.Software Proficiencies Advanced proficiency in Civil 3D, 12D, OpenRoads, Infraworks, Revit. etc. Relevant Software training certificates including Autodesk Certified Professional in Civil 3D preferred.Qualifications Diploma/Degree in Civil Engineering or associated domains in Construction/Design Engineering. Membership of professional organisation preferred.Experience Minimum of 12+ years’ experience post qualification in civil infrastructure drafting and modelling. Past experience in Australian, NZ or UK projects is preferred but not essential.
