Role Overview: The QA Manager is responsible for defining, governing, and scaling the overall quality engineering strategy while closely working with Clients on-site. This role focuses on strategic ownership, leadership, and risk management, while being hands-on and overseeing experienced QA resources responsible for execution. The position requires strong technical and domain depth, business acumen, and the ability to translate quality metrics into actionable insights and release decisions. Key Responsibilities: 1) Technical Skills and Competencies 1.1) Must Have The QA Manager must possess the technical acumen to define and govern the overall quality engineering strategy, rather than focusing on execution. Test Strategy & Architecture: Requires the ability to design and implement a holistic End-to- End Test Strategy that spans the complex integration points (UI, API, Desktop App, and Firmware Sync). This includes defining the appropriate level of testing for each component. Automation Governance: Must possess expertise in setting the Automation Roadmap and calculating ROI. This involves strategically selecting and guiding the implementation of scalable automation frameworks (e.g., Python, Cypress, Postman) and ensuring framework maintenance and reusability are prioritized by the Lead QA. Coding/Scripting Proficiency: Proficiency is required with automation code in languages like Python or Java to effectively develop automation code and guide the team Test Architecture decisions and perform high-level framework and code reviews. DevOps & CI/CD: A deep understanding of DevOps principles is essential to drive the Quality Integration into CI/CD. The manager must ensure that continuous testing and quality gates are embedded and enforced within the development and deployment pipelines (like Azure Pipelines), actively fostering a "Shift-Left" quality culture. Non-Functional Testing (NFT) Strategy: Experience is needed in strategizing and overseeing crucial NFT initiatives, particularly Load, Performance, Compatibility Testing, UI Testing, Usability Testing,and Scalability testing, which are critical for the backend of any smart solution or IoT platform handling numerous concurrent device connections. Technical Domain Knowledge: Requires a strong comprehension of the underlying architectural components of the smart solution—including device connectivity, data synchronization protocols, cloud services (like microservices), and API design—to effectively assess technical risks and testability. Metrics & Analytics: Proficiency in defining, tracking, and translating key quality metrics (such as Defect Leakage, Automation Coverage %, and Mean Time to Detect/Resolve) into actionable business insights, clear risk assessments, and process improvement plans. Environment & Configuration Strategy: The ability to define the high-level strategy for test environment provisioning, maintenance, configuration management, and the reliable handling of realistic test data across all integrated system components. 1.2) Good to Have Security Testing Governance: Experience integrating or overseeing advanced security testing (e.g., penetration testing, vulnerability scanning) into the SDLC, particularly for API and device communication with help of Security Experts. Cloud Platform Familiarity: Practical familiarity with the relevant cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) used for hosting the backend/API services is beneficial. Quality Management Certifications: Certifications such as ISTQB Advanced Level - Test Manager or Certified Quality Manager (CQM) demonstrate formal expertise. Test Data Management Tools: Experience with advanced tools and techniques for synthetic data generation and data anonymization. 2) Candidate Profile and Competencies Stakeholder Management & Communication: Requires skills as an Executive Communicator & Negotiator. They must have very good verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex technical quality risks, test statuses, and resource needs to senior business leaders and non-technical clients/stakeholders. They must be able to diplomatically negotiate scope changes, timelines, and quality trade-offs. Strategic Planning: Must possess a Visionary Quality Roadmap capability. This means developing a long-term, multi-project quality roadmap that aligns QA goals with the organization's overarching business and technology strategy. They must excel at managing competing priorities and effectively allocating resources. Risk & Decision Making: Requires the skills of an Expert Risk Assessor. They must have high competency in leading rigorous risk analysis and making definitive Go/No-Go release decisions, ensuring these decisions are based on data, established risk tolerance, and clear understanding of the business impact. Process Improvement: A proven track record of auditing and continuously improving existing QA processes, methodologies (e.g., Agile/Scrum adaptation), and tool utilization. They should lead initiatives focused on increasing test efficiency and reducing the Cost of Poor Quality. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Must be a Bridge Builder, expert in collaborating seamlessly with Product Owners, Development Managers, Tech Leads, Development Teams andInfrastructure/DevOps teams. Their goal is to embed quality practices throughout the entire development lifecycle, rather than just focusing on end-of-cycle testing. Leadership & Mentorship: Must be a Servant Leader and Coach with proven experience in building, managing, and mentoring a high-performing QA team.
