In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, configuration, and continuous improvement of our Microsoft Purview environment, supporting data governance, compliance, and information protection across the firm's audit, tax, and advisory services. You will work closely with IT, Compliance, Legal, and Security teams to ensure that sensitive client and firm data is properly classified, protected, and managed in accordance with applicable regulations and internal policies. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with the Microsoft Purview platform and a strong understanding of data governance and compliance frameworks in a professional services or regulated industry environment.ResponsibilitiesPlatform Administration: Administer and maintain the Microsoft Purview compliance portal, including configuration of data loss prevention (DLP) policies, sensitivity labels, retention policies, information barriers, and eDiscovery settings. Ensure the platform is operating effectively and that policies are enforced consistently across Microsoft 365 services.Data Classification & Labeling: Develop, deploy, and manage sensitivity labels and auto-labeling policies to ensure accurate classification of firm and client data across Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams. Regularly review and refine classification taxonomies to reflect evolving business needs and regulatory requirements.Data Loss Prevention (DLP): Create, tune, and monitor DLP policies to prevent unauthorized sharing or exfiltration of sensitive information. Investigate DLP policy matches and alerts, working with stakeholders to resolve incidents and reduce false positives without disrupting business operations.Compliance & Retention Management: Configure and manage retention labels and policies in alignment with legal, regulatory, and firm requirements. Support records management initiatives by ensuring content is retained or disposed of in accordance with established schedules.eDiscovery & Audit Support: Administer eDiscovery cases and content searches in support of legal holds, litigation requests, and internal investigations. Assist Internal Audit and Legal teams in retrieving and preserving relevant data, maintaining proper chain of custody throughout the process.Insider Risk & Information Protection: Configure and monitor Insider Risk Management policies within Purview to identify and respond to potential data security risks. Collaborate with the SOC and HR teams to investigate flagged activities in accordance with established procedures and privacy guidelines.Reporting & Monitoring: Generate and review compliance reports, policy match summaries, and audit logs within the Purview portal. Provide regular status updates to leadership and compliance stakeholders on the health and effectiveness of information protection controls.Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with IT Infrastructure, Cloud Operations, Legal, Compliance, and the Security Operations Center (SOC) to align Purview configurations with broader data governance and security strategies. Serve as the subject matter expert for Purview-related inquiries across the organization.Documentation & Training: Maintain thorough documentation of all Purview configurations, policies, and procedures. Develop guidance materials and provide training to end users and administrators on sensitivity labeling, DLP, and acceptable data handling practices.Required QualificationsEducation & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 3+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 compliance and security tools, with at least 1–2 years of direct experience with Microsoft Purview or its predecessor (Microsoft 365 Compliance Center).Microsoft Purview Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency configuring and managing core Purview capabilities including sensitivity labels, DLP policies, retention policies, eDiscovery, and Insider Risk Management. Familiarity with the full Microsoft Purview product suite, including Data Map and Data Catalog, is a plus.Microsoft 365 Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem — including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Teams — and how Purview integrates with and enforces policies across these services.Regulatory & Compliance Awareness: Familiarity with relevant data protection regulations and frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, or SOC 2. Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical Purview policy configurations.Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to investigate policy alerts, analyze audit logs, and troubleshoot configuration issues methodically. Comfortable working with large data sets and compliance reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and policy implications clearly to both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders.Preferred QualificationsCertifications: Microsoft certifications such as SC-400 (Microsoft Information Protection Administrator), MS-500 (Microsoft 365 Security Administrator), or SC-900 (Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals) are strongly preferred.Scripting & Automation: Experience using PowerShell to automate administrative tasks within Microsoft 365 and Purview. Familiarity with Microsoft Graph API for reporting or policy management is a plus.Azure & Cloud Security: Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud security concepts, particularly as they relate to data governance and information protection in hybrid or multi-cloud environments.Advanced Purview Features: Experience with Microsoft Purview Data Map, Data Catalog, or Purview's integration with Azure Synapse or other data platforms for broader enterprise data governance use cases.Industry Experience: Previous experience in a financial services, accounting, legal, or other regulated professional services environment. Understanding of how data governance and information protection support client confidentiality, regulatory compliance, and risk management in these industries.
