Trader – Iron Ore Trading (Peru)Job Title: Trader – Iron Ore Sourcing & Commercial Strategy (Peru)Location: Peru (Lima or mining regions)Industry: Mining / Commodities / International TradingFunction: Trading / Sourcing / Commercial StrategyAbout the OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Iron Ore Trader to lead sourcing, market development, and trading activities across Peru. The role will focus on identifying and securing iron ore supply from mines across the country, overseeing beneficiation processes to meet export specifications, and managing trading relationships with international buyers.The successful candidate must have deep knowledge of the Peruvian iron ore mining sector, strong relationships with mine owners and operators, and a solid understanding of Peruvian mining laws, permitting frameworks, and export regulations.This role will be responsible for building a reliable supply pipeline from Peruvian iron ore mines while ensuring compliance, quality, and commercial competitiveness.Key Responsibilities1. Mine Sourcing & Supply Development1.1 Identify, map, and maintain relationships with all major iron ore mines and exploration projects across Peru and over period in Latin America.1.2 Develop sourcing strategies to secure long-term supply agreements with mine operators.1.3 Evaluate mine production capacity, ore quality, logistics, and expansion potential.1.4 Conduct site visits and technical assessments of mining operations.2. Iron Ore Beneficiation & Quality Management2.1 Oversee iron ore beneficiation processes including crushing, screening, washing, and upgrading.2.2 Ensure ore meets international export specifications (Fe content, impurities, moisture).2.3 Coordinate with processing plants and mine operators to optimise product quality and recovery rates.2.4 Monitor quality control, sampling procedures, and laboratory testing.3. Trading & Commercial Strategy3.1 Develop and execute iron ore trading strategies for export markets.3.2 Negotiate supply and off-take contracts with international steel mills and trading houses.3.3 Monitor global iron ore prices, market trends, freight rates, and demand from key markets.3.4 Structure commercial agreements and pricing mechanisms.4. Market Intelligence & Industry Mapping4.1 Maintain a comprehensive database of iron ore deposits, mines, beneficiation plants, and logistics infrastructure in Peru.4.2 Track new mining projects, exploration activities, and potential supply sources.4.3 Provide market insights and strategic recommendations to senior management.5. Regulatory & Compliance Management5.1 Ensure all sourcing and trading activities comply with Peruvian mining laws, environmental regulations, and export requirements.5.2 Manage permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals related to mining operations and export logistics.5.3 Liaise with government authorities, mining regulators, and local stakeholders.5.4 Monitor changes in regulatory frameworks affecting mining and commodity trading.6. Logistics & Export Coordination6.1 Coordinate transport from mines to ports including trucking, rail, and port logistics.6.2 Work with port operators and shipping companies for efficient export operations.6.3 Manage documentation, export compliance, and shipment scheduling.What We Are Looking For10+ years of experience in iron ore trading, mining, or commodities sourcing.Deep knowledge of iron ore mines and deposits across Peru.Strong relationships with mine owners, operators, and mining companies in the region.Experience with iron ore beneficiation and processing operations.Strong understanding of Peruvian mining laws, environmental regulations, and export compliance.Proven experience negotiating commodity supply contracts.Strong commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills.Education & SkillsBachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy, Business, or related field.Advanced degree (MBA or Mining/Metallurgy specialization) preferred.Fluency in Spanish and English is mandatory.Strong knowledge of iron ore quality specifications, beneficiation processes, and global iron ore markets.Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.Personal AttributesStrong commercial mindset with entrepreneurial approach.Deep technical curiosity about mining operations and ore processing.High integrity and strong compliance orientation.Ability to work across cultures and international markets.Willingness to travel frequently across mining regions in Peru.
