Job Description – BBS Engineer The BBS Engineer is responsible for preparing and managing Bar Bending Schedules for reinforcement steel used in construction projects. The role ensures accurate estimation, cutting, bending, and placement of reinforcement bars as per structural drawings while optimizing steel consumption and minimizing wastage.Key Responsibilities 1. BBS Preparation Prepare detailed Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) based on structural drawings. Interpret structural drawings and reinforcement details for various structural elements such as slabs, beams, columns, footings, and walls. Ensure accuracy in bar length calculations, shapes, and quantities.2. Quantity & Material Planning Calculate reinforcement steel quantities required for the project. Provide steel quantity estimates for procurement and project planning. Monitor steel consumption and track material usage at site.3. Coordination with Site Team Coordinate with structural consultants, site engineers, and contractors for clarification on drawings and reinforcement details. Assist site engineers in proper placement of reinforcement as per BBS. Resolve discrepancies between structural drawings and site execution.4. Cost Control & Optimization Optimize reinforcement usage to reduce wastage and improve cost efficiency. Identify opportunities for value engineering in reinforcement detailing.5. Documentation & Reporting Maintain updated BBS records and revisions based on design changes. Prepare reports related to steel consumption and project progress. Ensure documentation is aligned with project specifications and standards.
