Job Description Position: Assistant Manager – In-Process Quality Department: Quality Assurance Location: Jalisana, Gujarat Industry: Automotive / Auto Components Manufacturing Process Area: Weld Shop (MIG Welding) Role Purpose The Assistant Manager – In-Process Quality will be responsible for ensuring process quality control within the weld shop , specifically for MIG welding operations , to ensure that products meet customer specifications, automotive quality standards, and internal process capability requirements . The role focuses on defect prevention, process monitoring, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement within welding operations. Key Responsibilities 1. In-Process Quality Control – Weld Shop Monitor in-process quality during MIG welding operations . Ensure compliance with welding parameters, WPS (Welding Procedure Specification), and process control plans . Conduct regular weld quality inspections including: Visual inspection of weld beads Weld penetration verification Dimensional checks Ensure adherence to customer quality standards and specifications . 2. Process Quality Assurance Implement and monitor Control Plans and Process Flow for weld shop operations . Ensure compliance with APQP, PPAP and PFMEA requirements for welding processes. Maintain process capability and quality consistency . 3. Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving Investigate weld defects such as: Porosity Lack of penetration Undercut Spatter Distortion Conduct root cause analysis using tools like: 5 Why Fishbone Diagram 8D methodology Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) . 4. Shop Floor Quality Monitoring Conduct layered process audits in weld shop . Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) . Support production team in process improvements and defect reduction . 5. Quality Documentation & Reporting Maintain documentation including: In-process inspection reports Weld quality check sheets Process audit reports Track and report defect trends and rejection analysis . 6. Customer Quality Compliance Ensure weld shop quality meets OEM customer requirements . Support quality team in customer audits and internal audits . Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 quality standards . 7. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to reduce welding defects and improve process capability . Work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve weld quality. Participate in Kaizen, Lean and Six Sigma initiatives . Key Skills & Competencies Technical Skills Strong knowledge of MIG welding process Understanding of weld defects and inspection techniques Knowledge of automotive quality systems (IATF 16949) Experience in APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan Knowledge of welding parameters and process validation Quality Tools 7 QC Tools 8D Problem Solving Root Cause Analysis Statistical Process Control (SPC) Behavioral Competencies Strong analytical ability Attention to detail Shop floor problem solving Cross-functional collaboration Qualification Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Metallurgy Experience 7–10 years of experience in Automotive Manufacturing Minimum 5 years in Weld Shop Quality Hands-on experience in MIG welding quality control Preferred Industry Experience Automotive Tier-1 / Tier-2 supplier Auto components manufacturing Fabrication / chassis / structural parts manufacturing
