Job Description

Full-time | On-site | HyderabadAbout Nolwa StudioNolwa Studio is a design studio and gallery based in Hyderabad, India. We create collectible objects of art and design by bringing together traditional Indian crafts and contemporary design perspectives — working with craftspeople and global designers to develop objects that celebrate Indian craftsmanship and engage meaningfully with international audiences. Our first collection, the Bidri Collection, was unveiled at Design Miami Basel 2024 and exhibited at India Art Fair 2025. It represents over five years of material research, prototyping, and collaboration with master artisans and designers from the UAE, USA, and Germany. We are now entering our next phase — expanding into new craft forms and building the institutional structure to execute at a higher level.About the RoleThis role is the operational backbone of the studio — the person who ensures that what gets conceived actually gets made, with clarity and rigour at every stage. You will work directly with the Founder to bring structure to product development, vendor coordination, and studio workflows. This is not a design role. But it requires someone who understands design environments, cares about how things are made, and can hold the complexity of a research-driven, craft-led studio together. If you are drawn to the world of materials, making, and collectible objects — and you have the discipline to turn that interest into organised, reliable execution — this role is for you. What You Will OwnProject & Timeline Management Build and maintain trackers across all active projects. Break concepts into milestones, flag risks early, keep parallel workstreams aligned.Vendor & Production Coordination Coordinate with artisans, fabricators, and finish suppliers. Track prototypes, revisions, and approvals. Ensure follow-ups run independently of the Founder.New Product Development Structure and manage development phases from research through to production readiness. Coordinate between the product engineer, crafts liaison, and vendors. Maintain decision logs and timelines.Technical Research Coordination Define research briefs for materials, coatings, and finishes. Coordinate sample and testing cycles. Produce comparative summaries — cost, durability, application, lead time — and maintain organised material archives.Studio Systems Run weekly project reviews. Circulate clear action summaries. Build workflow discipline over time so execution stress reduces and clarity becomes the default.Within Your First Six MonthsAll active projects have visible timelines and milestonesVendor follow-ups run independently of the FounderProduct development follows structured, documented stagesMaterial research is organised and comparableWeekly status summaries are generated proactively What We're Looking For3–7 years in project coordination, production management, or studio operationsBackground in a design studio, architecture firm, or craft or product environment — or a clear, demonstrated affinity for these worldsStrong structuring and documentation ability; you make complexity legibleAesthetic awareness — not design skill, but an understanding of why quality, finish, and material decisions matterCalm under pressure, assertive when it counts, and genuinely motivated by executionComfortable working closely with a founder in a small, evolving studio where responsibilities will grow Why NolwaIndia has over 2,800 craft forms — many disappearing. Nolwa exists to investigate them with design-led rigour and bring them to international audiences. This role puts you at the centre of that work at a pivotal moment: a studio with international validation now building the systems to scale its ambition. You will work directly with the Founder, close to the making of objects that carry genuine cultural and creative weight. If you find satisfaction in order, momentum, and seeing complex projects through — and you want that work to exist inside a world of serious design — we'd like to hear from you.
