Job Description Web Developer (WordPress, Shopify & AI) Employment Type: Full-Time About the Role We are a UK-based Medical Healthcare company specializing in the sale of healthcare products, seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Web Developer based in India to join our growing team. This is an office-based position working closely with our UK head office, contributing to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of our web presence across WordPress and Shopify platforms. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in both platforms, alongside a strong working knowledge of AI tools and technologies , including their use in the design and visual creation of websites. This role will help shape the future direction of our digital healthcare products and drive innovation. Key Responsibilities WordPress Development 1. Design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable WordPress websites and custom themes optimized for speed, SEO, and security. 2. Develop and customize WordPress plugins to meet specific business requirements, focusing on efficiency and reusability. 3. Manage WordPress installations , updates, security patches, and performance optimization (using caching, CDN, and database optimization techniques). 4. Expertise in VPS management , configuring web servers (Nginx, Apache), and optimizing them for WordPress performance. 5. Manage multi-site WordPress networks and configure complex multilingual sites using tools like WPML and Polylang . 6. Implement custom post types , taxonomies, advanced custom fields (ACF) , and integrations with third-party APIs . 7. Configure staging environments for safe deployment and testing before live site updates, including Git-based workflows . 8. Implement scheduled backup migration systems for disaster recovery using tools like UpdraftPlus , BackupBuddy , or custom scripts. 9. Enforce SEO best practices across all builds, including on-page SEO, structured data, sitemaps, and internal linking for optimal search engine ranking. 10. Perform website security audits and implement firewall configurations , SSL certificates , and other best practices to ensure WordPress sites remain secure. 11. Strong understanding of Core Web Vitals , performance metrics , and tools like Lighthouse and GTMetrix to optimize load times and site performance. Shopify Development 1. Build and customize Shopify storefronts using Liquid templating , HTML5 , CSS3 , and JavaScript to create dynamic, responsive e-commerce sites. 2. Develop and integrate custom Shopify apps using Shopify's API (REST and GraphQL), and manage third-party app integrations. 3. Configure Shopify Plus features , including Shopify Scripts , Shopify Flow , and advanced features like Automated Discounts and Custom Checkout . 4. Design and optimize Shopify themes for speed and mobile responsiveness using best practices such as lazy loading , image optimization , and minification . 5. Implement complex product catalogues , collections, advanced filtering , custom payment gateways , and checkout flows to enhance user experience. 6. Integrate AI-powered features for product recommendations, intelligent search, and personalization engines using Shopify’s built-in AI tools and third-party integrations. 7. Perform data migrations from other platforms (e.g., WooCommerce, Magento) to Shopify, including product, customer, and order data. 8. Optimize Shopify apps and integrations, ensuring they work seamlessly with existing workflows and improve site performance. 9. Implement A/B testing and conversion rate optimization (CRO) strategies to maximize sales and improve the customer journey. 10. VPS setup and hosting configuration for Shopify stores hosted on private cloud servers, ensuring high uptime and fast response times. 11. Maintain customizable Shopify dashboards for tracking business KPIs, sales performance, and customer analytics. AI Integration, Development & Design 1. Leverage AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT API , Claude API , GitHub Copilot ) to accelerate development workflows. 2. Use AI-powered design tools (including Google Nano Banana Pro , Adobe Firefly , Midjourney , Runway , DALL-E , and Relume ) to create original website visuals, banners, product imagery, UI elements, and branded healthcare content. 3. Apply AI to generate and iterate on website layouts , colour schemes, and design concepts in line with healthcare brand guidelines. 4. Integrate AI-powered features into websites such as chatbots, personalization engines , and intelligent product recommendation tools . 5. Assist in evaluating and implementing AI-driven solutions for e-commerce, content management, and customer-facing healthcare experiences. 6. Use AI writing and content tools to support the creation of SEO-optimized copy and product descriptions for healthcare products. 7. Stay up to date with evolving AI technologies and proactively recommend adoption strategies for the team. 8. Build and maintain automation pipelines using AI APIs to streamline business and design processes. Requirements Essential Requirements 1. Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in WordPress development . 2. Minimum 3+ years of professional experience in Shopify development . 3. Proficiency in PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3/SCSS , and REST APIs . 4. Hands-on experience with hosting setup , VPS management , and cloud hosting environments like AWS or Google Cloud . 5. Strong experience with performance optimization , backup migration , VPS configuration , and staging environments . 6. Proven ability to use the latest AI design tools — including Google Nano Banana Pro , Adobe Firefly , Midjourney , DALL-E , Runway , and Relume . 7. Strong understanding of web performance , Core Web Vitals , and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1). 8. Experience with version control systems , particularly Git/GitHub . 9. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for working with the UK team. 10. Ability to work independently, manage own time effectively, and meet deadlines. 11. Comfortable working across UK business hours for a minimum of 4 hours overlap per day. Desirable Skills 1. Experience with headless WordPress or Shopify Hydrogen/Oxygen . 2. Knowledge of React, Vue.js , or similar JavaScript frameworks. 3. Familiarity with AI platforms such as OpenAI , Anthropic , Google Gemini , or Hugging Face . 4. Understanding of prompt engineering and LLM fine-tuning concepts . 5. Experience with WooCommerce development . Knowledge of UX/UI design principles and tools such as Figma .
