Job Description Key Responsibilities Clinical Care - Provide comprehensive care to neonates in NICU, including ventilator and CPAP support. - Diagnose and manage conditions such as respiratory distress, neonatal sepsis, jaundice, birth asphyxia, prematurity, congenital anomalies, etc. - Perform neonatal procedures (intubation, umbilical line insertion, exchange transfusion, surfactant administration, etc.). - Lead neonatal resuscitation in delivery rooms and emergency situations. - Develop care plans for high-risk neonates and ensure parental counseling. NICU Management - Supervise day-to-day operations of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). - Ensure adherence to infection control, monitoring protocols, and safety standards. - Coordinate care with pediatricians, obstetricians, nurses, and other specialists. - Maintain NICU documentation, registers, and quality improvement data. Teaching & Training(For Academic Roles) - Teach MBBS, MD/DNB (Pediatrics), and nursing students on neonatal topics. - Conduct bedside clinical rounds, skill-based teaching, and case presentations. - Guide postgraduate students in research, thesis writing, and CME presentations. - Participate in curriculum planning and examination duties. Research & Development - Initiate or contribute to clinical research in neonatology and perinatology. - Publish in academic journals and present at national/international conferences. - Implement evidence-based practices and contribute to NICU protocol updates. Family Counseling & Support - Provide compassionate communication to parents of critically ill or premature babies. - Counsel families about neonatal conditions, prognosis, follow-up, and preventive care. Qualifications Essential: - MBBS + MD (Pediatrics) - DM / DNB Neonatology or Fellowship in Neonatology (IAP/NNF recognized) - Valid registration with State or National Medical Council Desirable: - NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) instructor certification - Prior experience in Level II/III NICUs - Teaching or academic research experience Skills & Competencies - In-depth knowledge of neonatal physiology, pathology, and intensive care - Skilled in neonatal procedures and use of ventilators, incubators, monitors - Excellent decision-making in high-pressure and emergency situations - Strong leadership and team coordination - Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams and parents - Commitment to quality care and continuous learning
