The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of the full copy editing process and must be proficient in both AMA (American Medical Association) and Chicago Manual of Style guidelines. This role ensures content accuracy, consistency, and clarity across all published materials.Key ResponsibilitiesCopy Editing ProcessExecute the full copy editing lifecycle, from initial manuscript review to final proofing.Ensure consistency in tone, style, grammar, punctuation, and syntax throughout documents.Fact-check content for accuracy, including citations, references, and data integrity.Collaborate with authors and editors to resolve queries and improve manuscript quality.Prepare manuscripts for publication by formatting according to specific style guides.Style Guide AdherenceApply AMA Style for medical, scientific, and health-related content.Apply Chicago Manual of Style for general publishing, books, and non-fiction works.Maintain a style sheet for ongoing projects to ensure uniformity.Resolve conflicts between style guides when necessary, consulting with senior editors.Quality AssurancePerform multiple rounds of editing (copy, line, and proof) to eliminate errors.Check for plagiarism and ensure proper attribution of sources.Verify that all visual elements (tables, figures, images) are correctly labeled and referenced.Ensure compliance with legal and ethical publishing standards.Required ExperienceMinimum 1 year of professional experience in copy editing or proofreading.Proven track record of working with published content in print or digital formats.Demonstrated expertise in the full copy editing process (developmental to final proof).Style Guide KnowledgeMandatory: Proficiency in AMA Style (American Medical Association).Mandatory: Proficiency in Chicago Manual of Style.Ability to switch between style guides seamlessly based on project requirements.EducationBachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.Certification in editing or publishing is preferred.Preferred Skills (Language Editing)Language Editing: Experience with language editing (grammar, syntax, flow) is a plus.Multilingual Ability: Familiarity with translating or editing content in multiple languages.Subject Matter Expertise: Background in medical, scientific, or technical writing.Software Proficiency: Experience with Track Changes, Adobe Acrobat, and CMS platforms.
