We are hiring an Enterprise Architect to define and evolve our technical “North Star” and turn it into pragmatic standards, reference architectures, and guardrails. This is a high-impact role for a hands-on architect who can zoom out to design a scalable platform while also diving into details with teams to unblock delivery. You will partner closely with the VP of Engineering and engineering leaders across UI, Backend, Data Platform, QA, DevOps, IT, and R&D.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: What You Will OwnEnterprise architecture blueprint that supports scaling from a few products to many—shared capabilities, reusable services, and clear boundaries.Reference architectures and “golden paths” for service development, deployment, observability, and security.Architecture governance that is lightweight but effective: decision records (ADRs), standards, and technical reviews that accelerate teams rather than slow them down.A 12–18-month architectural roadmap aligned to product launches, platform modernization, and operational maturity.Core ResponsibilitiesScalability & Operational ExcellenceDesign platform patterns that reduce boilerplates for new products (shared auth, logging, error handling, CI/CD templates, service scaffolding).Define performance and load strategy for peak season traffic; guide capacity planning for ECS Fargate, Aurora MySQL, and supporting services.Establish system health “golden signals,” SLO/SLI targets, and reliability standards, partner with DevOps on observability and incident learnings.Data & Analytics FoundationsDesign the long-term architecture for our analytics platform (Redshift and curated marts), including ingestion patterns from production, marketing, and CRM systems.Define data governance fundamentals (data contracts, lineage, quality checks, access controls) that enable trustworthy reporting and self-service analytics.Security & Governance by DesignElevate security posture across WAF, ALB, CloudFront, IAM, secrets management, and CI/CD; ensure security is baked into platform patterns.Define standards for microservices (Spring Boot), API design, inter-service communication, state management, and backwards compatibility.Partner with IT and security stakeholders on risk assessment, vulnerability management, and audit readiness.FinOps & Cost StewardshipEstablish cost visibility and optimization practices across AWS; recommend right-sizing, scaling policies, storage strategies, and architectural changes that protect margins.Create an engineering-friendly cost feedback loop (dashboards, budgets/alerts, cost-aware design reviews).Technical Leadership & EnablementMentor senior engineers and managers; raise the bar through design reviews, coaching, and documentation.Communicate complex technical tradeoffs clearly to executives and cross-functional stakeholders.Technology Environment (Current)AWS: ECS Fargate, ALB, CloudFront, WAF, Aurora MySQL (RDS), Redshift (including Serverless), S3, CloudWatch/Logs.Backend: Java, Spring Boot microservices, REST APIs.Frontend & CMS: Angular (primary), React (select apps), WordPress CMS.DevOps/IaC: Terraform and/or CloudFormation, CI/CD pipelines, Git (Bitbucket).Required Qualifications10+ years in software engineering with 3+ years in architecture role (enterprise, platform, or principal engineer/architect).Strong AWS cloud architecture experience, including designing for reliability, security, and cost at scale.Deep backend design experience (Java/Spring Boot preferred) and API-first microservices architecture.Proven experience establishing standards and governance without creating heavy bureaucracy.Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence without direct authority.Nice-to-Have QualificationsExperience with data warehousing and analytics platforms (Redshift, BigQuery, etc.) and building reliable pipelines.Security architecture experience (zero-trust patterns, threat modeling, AppSec/DevSecOps).Experience enabling experimentation with AI/ML workloads and safe deployment patterns.Exposure to multi-tenant SaaS or multi-product platform design.Success in the First 90 DaysComplete a current-state assessment and publish an architecture “North Star” and prioritized roadmap.Define 3–5 high-leverage standards/golden paths (e.g., service template, observability, security baseline) and roll them out with at least one team.Establish an ADR process and lightweight architecture review cadence.Identify top 3 scalability/reliability risks for peak season and drive concrete mitigation plans.Why This Role MattersAs we scale product count and delivery velocity, architectural consistency and platform leverage become essential.
