The candidate will work under the direction of the group lead with the primary role in design & development of the prototypes of the Li-ion cells/batteries and scaling them in to production level. This role entails deep expertise in the field of electrochemistry, cell design, development of prototypes and launching them into production. Key Responsibilities Lead the cell design & development efforts throughout the product development cycle and launch cells into production Define cell design to meet specific customer requirements Work with R&D team in qualify anode materials, cathode materials, electrolyte & separator materials and new electrode compositions and transfer them to cylindrical & prismatic cells. Work with mechanical engineers on the development of mechanical aspects of the cell design Optimize the electrode composition, electrode processing, cell assembly processes and cell design parameters to improve the electrochemical performance & abuse performance Define specifications for materials, slurry formulations, electrodes, cell subassemblies and final cell. Write DFMEA. Define & execute DVP&Rs for materials & cell qualification. Conduct design reviews and release the design to production upon successful validation Perform tear downs to identify failure modes and prepare reports Assist the production team in defining manufacturing processes. Use the company’s document and change control system to properly archive technical documentation Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team membersCommunicate the cell development updates to internal & external stake holders Education & Experience Ph.D. in Electrochemistry or Chemical engineering or Materials science with research focus on batteries Minimum 3 years of Industry experience in development of lithium ion batteries. Significant Experience in cell design & development for different customer applications Experience in taking the cell from design phase to launch phase In-depth knowledge of Li-ion battery cell operation, performance and failure modes. Excellent communication skills Ability to work independentlyPreferred 5+ years of Industry experience in development of lithium ion batteries.
